Even before I found out that King was a flaming liberal, I never thought much of him as writer. He has some interesting plots that were made into good films when in the hands of capable film directors, but as a literary stylist he's a zero.
King is one of those writers who intentionally dumbs down his prose to reach the widest possible commercial audience. I doubt there's a single sentence in any of his books that a grade school kid couldn't compose - hence his popularity among grade school kids.

Remember, one of the key scenes in his novel “It” involved children bonding after a traumatic event by engaging in an orgy.

You can tell he is a flaming liberal from his writing. All of his unlikeable or evil characters have conservative qualities.

King's works will never be confused with Shakespeare and never be the inspiration of a movement or be quoted from.
That said, he was very good at his genre, which I describe as glorified comic books.
He could write very good characters which he could make come alive and hold your attention for the length of the book.
If he had any failings it was he couldn't write the end. Too many of his books the last chapters were contrived or just not satisfying. "The Tommyknockers" was one.
"It"s ending was "stoooopid"
