CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Reuters) - The world's most powerful rocket, SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, roared into space through clear blue skies in its debut test flight on Tuesday from a Florida launch site where moon missions once began, in another milestone for billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's private rocket service. ..... Then, capitalizing on cost-cutting reusable rocket technology pioneered by SpaceX, the two boosters flew themselves back to Earth for safe simultaneous touchdowns on twin landing pads at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, about eight minutes after launch. Each rocket unleashed a double sonic boom as it neared the landing zone.

“I know this Musk is a big lib,”

He’s not a big lib. He’s a strong believer in competition, fewer regulations, profits, hard work, excellence...

Check out some of the videos in Youtube about him - it’ll be an eye opener.

He’s very intelligent, incredibly driven, a dreamer and has a will to power to make the dreams real. A force of nature.

He may come across as a lib because his main purpose in life is to make the world a better place. His passions are renewable energy and making humans a multi-planetary species to enhance their survival.

No, actually, NASA saw all private spaceflight as a threat to their precious Shuttle. They spent the entire period of the 80s through the Columbia disaster doing everything they could to kill off private spaceflight. What they did to Rotary Rocket, to name one victim, was unconscionable. And they bragged to their victims that they would never take down the Shuttle.

They also saw DARPA’s SSTO program as a threat - so they got it assigned to them, strangled it in duct tape, ran the team ragged and when there was an inevitable accident, claimed it wasn’t worth further work and killed it off.

Doesn't look all that big when you look at the gas tank hand carts.

“Each rocket unleashed a double sonic boom as it neared the landing zone.”

Environmentalists will want to shut down the space program.

They should use the reverse boost to slow descent and then use a chute

Congratulations to the SpaceX team and Elon Musk! However, I could care less about that car. The symbolism is unnecessary, however benign. I want to see the video of the exploding center stage. It was after all, a major malfunction resulting in catastrophic failure. Other than that it was almost the thrill of a lifetime. I say “almost” because nothing could be more meaningful than the many ‘firsts’ of the original Space Race, the history of the NASA missions that led to Apollos 8 through 17, and their lessons learned in aeronautical engineering and space exploration.

NaSA is a peace communist mission. It should have been the military taking care of this. Instead NASA siphoned it all in bureaucratic incompetence

Irony that Munsk et al still don’t realize that Obama the communist hates any success of this sort on US soil.

Prefered to see goat humpers launch scuds and kill us instead

now there’s a red sports car orbiting the sun!

NO. It overshot Mars and is currently headed to the Astroid Belt; no orbit yet established.
