A 15-year-old DeLand High School student was arrested Tuesday after he was caught with a cell phone case that looked like a gun, according to police.

A student told school administrators that he saw with a pink backpack and what looked like a pink pistol in his pocket.

The school was placed on lockdown and police started searching for the student.

Officers found the student aft.er about 45 minutes and he was taken into custody.

He told officers he ordered the cell phone case online for him and his girlfriend.

Because of the recent shooting and the attitudes of recent years in regard to anything that resembles a weapon, including a pop tart, I don't think it was very wise of this student to bring this cell phone case to school.

A student was arrested in Florida for carrying a pink cellphone case that resembled a gun, DeLand Police said. ( DeLand Police Department photo)

On the one hand I’d call this ridiculous but since you can now buy many guns in any color you want, or upgrade them later to any color, a bit of caution seems sensible. But, arresting them?! That is over the top. Consider the longterm implications, this can ruin the kid’s life, affect college admissions, job search, etc. Nope, to look for them was not ridiculous, to arrest definitely was. The case is NOT illegal. What was the charge anyway?

Okay, arrested for “a disruption of educational institute charge”. What?! That sounds like what the police and administration should face. Charge them with “a disruption of educational institute charge”!

Schools once had active rifle and archery teams, and had safety classes for same.
Wouldn’t have happened then.
These days?

Under reacting to a real threat and over reacting to a non-threat.

Bunch of incompetent boobs!

“But, arresting them?! That is over the top.”

Hysteria and over reaction is a way of controlling people. In Walmart a liberal saw the top of a concealed carry gun and hysterically yells, “Look out, he has a gun!” Then she keeps on yelling. Deputies were called. The CCW customer was banned from Walmart and the woman looked all smug and satisfied. I’d have arrested her as she could have precipitated a shooting when the deputies, who were already in the store, arrived. After I related this incident another Freeper related a similar event.

I stayed to verify to the deputies that the CCW holder had not done anything wrong, but the deputies were not interested in talking to me. Incidentally, I had a .380 in my pocket in a sleeve so as to disguise its shape. I’d love to carry a more effective gun but then you run the risk of running into this stupidity.

So, hysterical over reaction is both satisfying and effective. I saw this building in my Fortune 500 workplace as smaller and smaller, even meaningless events, could result in a letter in your file or even dismissal. I received a quiet and very serious warning from the HR manager about “politically incorrect thinking.” Seriously.

I suppose its fitting, a pink cell phone mistaken for a real weapon and clearly chronically unstable young people mistaken for wellness.
There’s a clear lack of being attention paid

Bad idea to bring it to school, but it doesn’t warrant an arrest. Detention, maybe. If the Left ever gets complete power, they will have Soviet style gulags for those who need “re-education.”

He shouldn’t have been arrested but I would have suspended his dumb ass for a day or two for being a dumb ass.

Sorry, she’s just looking for trouble with something shaped like that. She’s lost the ability to put it in any pocket, and when she goes to use it it looks like she is indeed pulling a gun.

“But it looks like a gun!” would be the opposite of a convincing rebuttal.

The police were poorly trained to handle this. What if it had been an off-duty cop? Shame on Wal-Mart. This screaming woman should have been arrested and banned from the store, not the legal citizen carrying a concealed weapon.

Is this is new form of SWATTING?

I had a Florida trooper get upset with me for not confessing I was carrying a gun. He saw my license when I opened my wallet. I mean he was yelling in what I think of as a drill sergeant voice. I told him it was not a requirement to tell him I had a gun. He thought it was. He came back about twenty minutes later, handed me my gun in pieces and apologized as I had the law right and he didn’t. He let me go with a warning.

My employee, Nate, beside me had placed his hands flat on the dash while all this took place as the trooper sounded that threatening. Nate said, “He didn’t write you a ticket because he doesn’t want any part of this in a court record someplace.” I agreed.

Some cops are anti-second amendment and it shows.
