We lost 620,000 soldiers in our first civil war, and the US population is more than ten times what it was in 1860. I'm guessing the numbers in the next go around would be much higher than a mere 7 million that would be proportionate losses, even disregarding civilian deaths from starvation and cold arising from disrupted commerce.
To put this in perspective, according to the Census Bureau, the United States population in 1970 was 203 Million. They wanted 50 million dead. They wanted a quarter of the United States population of that day dead. That quarter they wanted dead was the quarter that would stand up to them. Fight them. Deny them their goals.
Whoops. Not 50 million dead. 25 Million. 12.5% of the population.

I had this very same discussion, many times, with my now departed Mother. She was born in 1942, and so grew up in a time when democrats were not communists.
When I would show evidence and example of how and why modern-day democrats were not the same kind of democrats that she knew as a young woman, she would become angry and defensive.

There are typically between 10 and 45 police officers per 10k citizens with the average being around 20 per 10k. About 3500-6000 (or more depending on the state) of the people are armed. If only 10% are going to refuse to be disarmed, those 20 officers are going to have to dynamically enter 300-650 homes and try to disarm people who aren’t willing to be disarmed. The air will go out of even the most gungho ninja wannabe cop after the first 3 or 4 homes. Then the civil war would start and the targets would become the politicians who sent the cops.
For this reason the left knows that an immediate confiscation order would end up in a civil war where a lot of them would end up dead. Instead, they are willing to pass anti-gun laws one at a time until they feel comfortable enough to outlaw ALL transfers. In the mean time, the kids will be indoctrinated to snitch on their parents and grandparents and will turn in their guns like good little socialists.

Exactly, and I think a lot of people are being complacent because of all the bashing by the mainstream media.
I hope Trump is playing the same game that he did with DACA – dangle a carrot in front of them, and then yank it away demanding a more conservative bill. Like maybe including a national carry. I sure hope so!
anyway, taking away the civil rights of a large group of people between the ages of 18 and 21 is a horrible idea. If these people are incapable of handling a weapon, then the minimum age to get into the military needs to be raised as well. And the South will rise again over this one. There are lots of youngsters that are out shooting and hunting before they enter middle school around here. They are probably far more capable than most adults.
