Can Cellphones Cause Cancer? Experts Surprised By Latest Tests

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Can cellphones really cause cancer? It’s been a question that’s dogged researchers for years.

However, a group of experts say the results of some tests are pretty surprising.

Millions of people constantly call, text, click, take pictures and play on cellphones.

Even the top cellular radiation researchers from around the world have a hard time untethering.

But, they gathered recently in North Carolina to talk about cellphone concerns and whether they really do increase the chances of developing cancer.

The panel voted that the results from years of testing on mice and rats were more significant than originally thought.

They say they found clear evidence that phone radiation caused tumors in the hearts of rats, which were similar to tumors in people.

“In humans, it’s seen in the vestibular nerve, in the ear, the acoustic nerve. We found it in the heart, although our animals were exposed in their whole body condition,” John Bucher said.

“While a given animal is not making a cellphone call, they are, throughout their short two-year lifetime getting the same exposure that we expect people to get in their 70-plus years of life,” Dr. Devra Davis, of Environmental Health Trust, said.

Activists are now calling for more protections, citing separate studies from France and Italy.

“Many brain tumor lawsuits going on right now that are waiting for a study like this to prove that people’s brain tumors were caused by their cellphone radiation,” Kevin Mottus, of the California Brain Tumor Association, said.

There are new concerns on the horizon as 5G, which is a stronger broadband system, is about to debut.

Some activists say the government has a responsibility to increase regulations.

“And I think it’s the responsibility of the ones making the phones to make them as safe as possible, and I’m sure they can do better than what we actually have,” Dr. Annie Sasco said.

Both activists and researchers agree that people can minimize any risk by holding phones away from the body when in use and not putting them in your pocket.

The RF radiation exposure is nothing compared to the Zombie like creatures cell phones have created with their stupid social media. These idiots can’t even carry on a conversation with other people. All they can do stare at their phones and peck on them all day.

I think this has been a dirty little secret for quite a long time. Nobody wants to think that this ubiquitous communication tool is causing brain cancer. That would spoil everything.

What I want to know is this, did they make tiny tiny cellphones for the rats? Who did the rats call and how long did they talk? Seriously, was this the same kind of testing that they did with saccharin? Because if it was, there isn't a grain of salt beg enough to take this with.

I saw that item earlier and thought the exact same thing - that Saccharine study. They gave rats so much saccharine that I can’t believe they didn’t die of a vitamin deficiency.

"Microwaves aren’t just for cooking bacon..............................
If your microwave oven leaked as much RF energy as your cellphone emits, it would fail the leakage test and never leave the factory.............

So I guess the sensible thing to do is wrap my cellphone in streaky bacon; as a bonus I'll have crispy rashers ready for breakfast every morning?

One way to reduce cell phone radiation is to add more cell towers.

When a call is set up, the phone's output power level is adjusted based on its distance to the cell tower it's connected to (inverse-square law). More cell towers mean the phone can connect with a lower transmit output signal.

Technological advances will also help. More sensitive receivers in your phone and in the cell tower, mean that lower power transmitters can be used.

Of course there needs to be a vote held — How else can you get to the consensus part of the scientific method?

Where are you getting the tin foil? All I can ever find is that aluminum stuff!

“Whenever you have to vote on science, it isn’t science.”

science throughout history has been exactly that, with many famous examples including Kepler, Galileo, Harvey, Lister, Louis Pasteur, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Alfred Wegener, Antoine Lavoisier, and Robin Warren and Barry J. and many, many others.

“We are surrounded by microwave radiation, Bluetooth, WiFi, Cellphone towers, automatic store doors, OnStar, Direct TV, Dish Network”

yeah, but what matters is the power level one is subjected to. try disabling your microwave oven safety features, open the door, stand in front, turn it on and see what happens ...

cell phones held against the brain are like little microwave ovens ... it’s a legitimate question whether their transmit power levels are harmful

uh...there is NO “consensus” in the scientific method.......

Of course there’s no “consensus” part — Unless you’re talking about the new scientific method, the one that’s used for Global Warming.

Sorry, I didn’t think that a “/s” was needed for my response.

They'd have done the research with ducks, but that's too closely associated with quacks. Thanks Red Badger.

LOL,,, I would not wish a purse on anyone! As a woman who carries a purse with lots of pockets, it is amazing how much can accumulate in two days. I am constantly emptying my change, removing receipts, and looking for stuff that disappears into the bottom...like a black hole...lol

I could never wear one of those belts, it does not hold enough...keys, money/change, cards, make up, comb, cell phone and other necessary evils. I have a very long strap to allow ‘hands free’ over the shoulder access...still; if only there were only another way!
