I am tired of being a Jewish man’s rebellion
Washington Post ^ | March 29, 2018 | Carey Purcell

At my very first job in New York, a colleague jokingly informed me: “You came in a WASP, but you’re leaving a Jew.”

That statement was in reference to the demographics of the office’s staff. Almost everyone who worked there was Jewish, and I, a recent college graduate who had spent my adolescence in a largely Christian community in the South, was not. At the time, I had no idea she would end up being so right.

As a teenager, I attended exactly one bat mitzvah, but moving to New York provided endless opportunities to learn about the Jewish faith. Friends invited me to join their families for Passover seders and Hanukkah celebrations. However, it was through my various romantic relationships where I learned the most about Judaism — a religious faith and culture I have grown to love and respect, but that has also contributed to two of my biggest heartbreaks.

""Is Shiksa a bad word?" Yes, it is a bad word. The root word is something like an animal, heathen." Kind of. It is a Yiddish blend of the Hebrew word "šiqṣâ" -- which means "a not kosher animal" and Polish "siksa" which means "naughty school-girl". In modern times, it is a reference to non-Jewish girls who seek the romantic attention of Jewish men. And, yes, it is pejorative -- when spoken by a Jewish female. For Jewish men, it is a reference to the untouchable beautiful non-Jewish girl -- say Christie Brinkley in the 1980s (which is what Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" is all about. It's the draw of the forbidden fruit. All that said, I do agree it is forbidden for Jewish people to date (or marry) non-Jewish people. It says this very clearly in the Torah, and a number of poor events are related to such pairings. In contrast, conversions have resulted in some of the best Jewish people that ever lived, notably Ruth, and a whole host of others. I presume Nazarines have similar restrictions, which seems imminently reasonable.

In modern times, it is a reference to non-Jewish girls who seek the romantic attention of Jewish men.

I think it is more accurate to say, "It is a reference to the belief by Jewish men that non-Jews are whores, and therefore seek 'romantic attention of Jewish men." There's no good reason to reinforce the ugly stereotype, as if there are hordes of "shiksas" actually hunting down Jewish men for sex!

For Jewish men, it is a reference to the untouchable beautiful non-Jewish girl

No, it's not like a "oh, an untouchable beautiful woman," as if it's some kind of abstract sense of awe. Even Salon, in their defense of the word Shiksa from some kind of hate-crime statute, confess that the word is embued with "complex and layered notions of sexuality, its containment of both self-righteousness and self-loathing, the embedded yearning for and guilt of assimilation." In other words: it's a bizarre sexual fixation, complete with "self-loathing" and hatred towards the "shiksa," that Jews over psychoanalyze themselves about.

It's seeped in strange perversity and imagining of whorish gentile women running around waiting to be taken advantage of, which is the theme in virtually every Jewish source, novel, whatever, that makes the "shiksa" a topic of conversation.

“Jewishness” passes down through the mother. If a Jewish man marries a non-Jewish woman, then the children will not be considered Jewish (except if she converts).

I’m not really sure where you are getting the “whoreish” thing from.

I certainly do not believe than non-Jewish women are whores.

If anything, with the lack of religious observance by Reform Jewish women in this USA, the contrary has been my experience.

I am sure there are some Jewish male weirdos out there with a fetish of some kind, but they are not remotely the mainstream. If there are, I bet they are non-observant liberals, probably working for Soros somehow. Jews, just like everyone else, has weirdos.

I am also sure that jealous Jewish women, angered that “their” men are being taken, probably say such things in anger, but I’ve never seen the connotation in Israel or the USA past petty cattiness.

Nevermind, I’ve read some of your other posts. I love this gem:

“In many ways, Judaism is worse than Islam, because the Muslims are very straight forward with their hostility. Judaism is as dishonest and passive aggressive as the Mormons. In hundreds upon hundreds of debates, I can count the number of times religious Jews have been honest about their beliefs on just one hand.”

We get it. You have false beliefs regarding what Jews believe and blame us for your poor life choices.

Go run run for office in Illinois or something.

Her biggest heartbreak, IMHO, is that her Christianity means very little to her. I would say the same about her Jewish boyfriends. If both of their faiths were important to them they never would have gotten into the relationships.

You have false beliefs regarding what Jews believe

We've had long debates before where each time you seem to become shocked that I would express these statements to you, so I am not sure why you are now pretending like it is some sudden discovery. You've also have never really disputed anything I've said before, at least not substantially (maybe messing with some jots and tittles?), despite the mewling.

I’m not really sure where you are getting the “whoreish” thing from.

You've already used the words "non-kosher animal" and "naughty school girl" to explain the traditional meaning of the word. How do you not derive "whoreish" from that description? What do you think Roth, in that quote I provided, means when he sits there talking about his penis and obsessing over Shiksas he simultaneously deplores and fetishizes? What do you think Salon means when they describe the "complex sexuality", "self-righteousness" and "self-hatred" that is embued in the meaning of the word, while bizarrely trying to defend its use, if not "these are dirty, tempting whores? Evil seductresses? Naughty school girls hunting the Jew?"

As for, "Jews have weirdos too." Well, what do you expect from a religion that teaches contempt of Gentiles, picturing their women as whores, and imagines men and women boiling forever in pots of feces and semen? Whatever Rabbi invented such notions certainly wasn't a normal individual!

The Brandeis student newspaper, some decades back, ran a cartoon with a young man saying to his mother, “But Mom, shiksas are for practice.” It was female students who objected to the insult. So I don’t think “unobtainable” expresses the male attitude.

“Nazarines?” Is that Christians?

“How do you not derive “whoreish” from that description?”

Because I’m not a weirdo with a deep-seated hatred of a group of people that I use to twist things to my preconceived notions.

“Well, what do you expect from a religion that teaches contempt of Gentiles”

Huh. I don’t know what religion that is.

I do know that Judaism teaches me that Jews are the least of the people of G-d, chosen not because of merit, but because using such a defective group of people to demonstrate His power would be most effective.

Sounds like something that would come from the liberal cesspool that is Brandeis.
