The article mentions peg boards, which we had indoors in the weight/wrestling room of our gym.

Yeah, we had pegs, ropes, pull-up bars and medicine balls. And dodge balls!

What's the difference between high school kids of the 1960's vs high school kids today? ... About 30 lbs.

A good high school or college wrestling team works kids this hard.

I was a sophomore in high school in 1962. We didn't do this regimen, but gym class was a good workout. And no, not a fatty in the class.

run 2 miles cross county before warm up calisthenics, practice against a guy in the weight class above you, more calisthenics, another 2 mile cross country run, showers.

All of my gym teachers during the 60's were pretty tough - even the guy who smoked Camels (Mr. Allen) while we ran laps on the track.
Anybody ever play crab soccer? I don't mean crab lice, either.
It was two halves of the class against each other kicking a huge towel stuffed ball around the gym while doing the crab walk.
