California's Summer Gas Is Approaching $4.00/gal

As California's Summer Gas Is Approaching $4.00/gal what can we expect from President Trump and changes to onerous EPA regulations? Part of gasoline’s price increase is largely seasonal, as refiners tend to process less crude oil into fuel during maintenance and are starting to transition to summer-grade gasoline, which is more expensive to make. According to analysts prices will likely climb further as the weather warms and driving picks up. We need to get gas prices under control in order to MAGA.

I just paid $2.25/gallon to fill up my Ram 1500 environmental monster here in Texas. I did not feel the pain. California deserves the pain for their bad decisions.

Oddly due to very superior engineering in the Ram 1500 engine I get only very slightly less miles per gallon than my old Hyundai Santa Fe. If I am pulling my trailer it is much better mpg than my old Santa Fe. The Santa Fe was a very good vehicle. The Ram 1500 is far superior.

Since when has the vote of the people in California never been overridden by liberal politicians or judges in that state? I am surprised Prop 13 hasn’t been overturned and has lasted as long as it has.

“It’s a CA problem. Here in Springfield Missouri gas is $1.34.”

Fact check?

They are only off by 65% or so. ;-) Am showing the lowest price in Springfield, MO is $2.21 at Sam’s Club.

They have a cap’n’trade tax on gasoline and refiners as well.

California tax is 41.7 cents per gallon (5th highest in US) plus the cap’n’trade carbon tax plus 2.25% sales tax on total cost per gallon.

But Californians can be smug about all they’re doing to combat climate change (i.e., nothing significant.)

Up the burrito and hot sauce production. That should bring the gas prices way down.

#29. Buy a used YUGO. That will save you a lot of money, if you live long enough when you drive in Calif.

Based on my math, that’s $0.129/gallon for the cap’n’trade tax, based on a current CNT auction cost of $14.52/metric ton of CO2 (indulgence cost), and a gasoline conversion factor of 8.887 × 10-3 metric tons CO2/gallon of gasoline burned.

Ouch. And I assume that’s the 91 craptane “premium” you Californians enjoy, and not the 93 octane stuff we get here in most of the rest of the country?

With modern engines with knock sensors and computerized engine management, this affects output.

See post 49 from skepolitc and my post 56.

It is hard to get to an exact number. You can play around with those line items, then you still have a hidden tax caused by special CARB formulation requirements and the shortage of West Coast refineries, caused by decades of envirowhackoism. So it’s not something for which there is a clean, straightforward number.
