The OKC Thunder has issued a statement condemning the comments ...
"We find the term used by Brian Davis on our broadcast last night to be highly inappropriate and offensive."
"Weve discussed it with the announcer and let him know that. He assures us it was not meant in any sort of offensive or derogatory manner and he apologizes."
"Nonetheless, hes been told the use of that term in any manner is unacceptable."
An NBA game announcer is in hot water after saying Russell Westbrook was playing so well Wednesday night ... he was "out of his cotton-picking mind."
Dude. Bad.
We get it ... FOX Sports Oklahoma play-by-play guy Brian Davis (white dude) was trying to say Westbrook was playing on another level (he became the first player in NBA history to average a triple double 2 years in a row).
But, when you make a cotton reference about a black guy ...it's not usually well received.
That's exactly what happened Wednesday night -- people are losing their minds about the comment. Some people are even suggesting Davis should be fired.
There's been a long debate about the origin of the expression -- some people say it was used as a slur plantation owners used toward slaves.
We're reaching out to the Thunder for comment.
Where's our White Privilege here? hmm?
These people are out of their boll harvesting minds...
I always thought the saying came about because picking cotton is so tedious that it can drive you crazy.
Lol, nearly made me spit with that post...:)
Should have said Toe Picking
Like in Poughkeepsie
Time for all of us to grow up. Nobody got hurt. Move on.
Okay,Popeye!
So, another old expression now gets your a$$ reamed and you fired.
What about “Pea-picking”?
cotton-picking???!!!???
O
M
G!!!!!!!!!!!!!
obviously, he needs to lose his job. Friggin racist..........
(s)
LOL, true. That is still a common term around here and I have never heard any complaints.
Does that mean that describing someone as “RED FACED” is calling that person a “COMMUNIST”?
what about a guy being “BROWNED OFF?”
Or, “WHITE faced with fear?”
When the mention of a COLOR can be accused as defamitory, the language is truly dead.
Remember that movie “Places in the Heart” where they pick cotton until their fingers bleed? I thought the phrase referred to that.
Give me a phucking break. Man I am fed up with this sh!t. Any and every time a white person makes the slightest remark in regards to a black person that can be twisted like a pretzel into a slavery reference the vunnables lose their COTTON PICKIN MINDS. And if you notice, it’s usually WHITE libtards the start the ball rolling with the “intolerant, insensitive, and offensive” accusations toward the person that said it. The announcedr should just tell them all they need to grow the phuck up, get over it, and get on with life.
Tell that to the Thunder...
Learner’s definition of COTTONPICKING

He is a cotton-picking [=damned] hypocrite.
