It shouldnt matter if you are an atheist, Christian, or follow any religion, you should have the Right, and freedom, to exercise your beliefs without fear of punishment or reprisal! These days we allow freedom of Choice, and Rights for just about everything in our society, however this girl had her Rights severely violated! What happened to this student was the equivalent of dictatorship in the classroom, and its wrong on so many levels!
Grace Lewis, was taking a class offered by Polk State college, in Florida. The very smart student usually had a 3.9 GPA. She was punished with 4 straight zero grades, because of her belief in God. Her professor used his position of power over his student, and tried to force her to adopt his world views. When she tried to stand up for herself he retaliated, by punishing her with undeserved failing grades. It appears she wasnt the only victim of this bullying either.

The teacher has serious legal jeopardy in a law suit stating he has violated the 1st amendment rights of the student.
Don’t sue the school or the school board. Sue the teacher personally, alone. Bankrupt the bastard.
Round up a few black friends and go fire bomb his office. See what the Dean does with that.

Yup! Any hungry new attorney would jump at this slam dunk case.
“Dont sue the school or the school board. Sue the teacher personally, alone. Bankrupt the bastard.”
I’d sue both. The school has condoned the professor’s behavior. The profesdor has commited an egregious act under the color of authority. He needs to be publicly punished.
When I lived in Florida, I saw Polk County as a hotbed of fundamentalism, because the Methodist and Assembly of God churches have their state headquarters in Lakeland. I take it that’s no longer the case?
Here you have a student who believes in God and a professor who thinks hes God.
“Dont sue the school or the school board. Sue the teacher personally, alone. Bankrupt the bastard.”
Sounds good to me.
Am I incorrect in believing that this occurred in 2015?
Am I incorrect in believing that this occurred in 2015?
Well ... bye.
While the Assembly of God could rightfully be categorized as “fundamentalist” by most, the Methodist Church certainly won’t fit in that category.
It’s actuallyits actually a violation of the civil rights act.
She was discriminated against for her religi, which is a protected class
You're correct, it's an old story.
Why? The First Amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
— Were there any laws enacted by Congress at issue here?
Seriously, not a First Amendment issue. At all.
(And no, the 14th does not alter the 1st.)
This did happen in 2015. The story disappeared because she got an A in the class in spite of the zeros. It turned out she got zeros because she didn’t answer the questions given and went off the topic. Sort of like answering the area of a circle equals the Battle of Hastings.
This was from 2015. What was the outcome?
There is no date on the article and it just showed up in my mail box today.
