Even the headline of the short essay in the New Yorker was meant to offend, and it did: Chick-fil-As Creepy Infiltration of New York City. The piece, by Dan Piepenbring, has been read, attacked, defended, and ridiculed by far more people than ordinarily read the New Yorker. If the editors goal was to attract online readers, they succeeded.
Piepenbring makes no effort to veil his contempt for the famously clean and friendly fast-food restaurant, of which there are now four in Manhattan. He visited the grand opening of the largest and most recently built one, on Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan. The air smelled fried, he writes. And yet Piepenbring leaves us to wonder many things, including why someone who doesnt like a restaurant should be annoyed that it closes on Sundays.......
The restaurants expansion in Manhattan, he writes, raises questions about what we expect from our fast food, and to what extent a corporation can join a community.
Of course, it raises no such questions. New Yorkers are very lefty in their politics; Chick-fil-As owners are Southerners with strong Christian convictions. But New Yorkers are mostly grownups, too, and theyre capable of coping with this slight dissonance.

Now I am hungry and have to wait till Monday! Ah well, good things come to he who waits!
Liberals are evil scum.
Yeah, they act like they’ve never been anywhere or encountered anyone different than them. Like diversity is a bad thing.
Also, would they complain that a restaurant run by observant Hindu’s did not have beef on the menu? And there are some places in Israel that proclaim “We observe ALL holy days.” Only open from Monday to Thursday.
Only a certain few people would complain.
The populations love of chicken sandwiches will over come the bigotry of a few.
The Chick-fil-A at 37th and 6th is always packed out the doors - was in Manhattan two weeks ago and could not even get near the place.
So much for the worthless liberal idiot protestors.
Im very happy to hear that you visited Alabama and enjoyed your stay.
Come back anytime!
Leftists infiltrate, leftists are creepy. What a surprise, yet another one is projecting. They have no idea what a good business model is and it shows.
We had a great time, thank you!
Here’s the Yelp page for C-f-A’s location inside a building at NYU. It doesn’t mention actual prices, but the Price range box on the right says “Under $10” with only one dollar sign icon out of a possible four.
