Several years ago, I was awakened when my doorbell rang at 2 AM. I was terrified—could it be an intruder or a junkie? Or worse, could it be a cop bringing me bad news about my elderly parents?

Without turning on the lights, I crept to the front door to look out the peephole, making sure my Mannlicher-Carcano was handy in case of real trouble. When I looked out, I saw a colleague of mine walking away. Turned out he just wanted to drop something off, and he just happened to pick the wee hours to do so.

The next day, I wrote him a letter (he didn’t have e-mail) chewing him out for dropping in when he did—and he was surprised that I was so angry. Apparently, in the Bohemian lifestyle which he led, dropping in unannounced at any hour was no big deal.

Incidentally, he was once on FR with the screen name “Godless Bolshevik,” or something similar, which reflected his actual worldview. He was quickly zotted, for some strange reason.

The manager should have called first. That’s always the protocol.

The argument that they were at her door with a replacement order is specious. They had her phone number. They could have called first (albeit the next morning, not at 10pm). There was no VM pertaining to “replacement order.” Otherwise it would be in a police report and clearly outlined in her rather-detailed account. No one sets out to order food in the middle of a blackout and instigate a confrontation, particularly a single black woman living alone in an apartment complex.

I recently had a confrontation with a manager at Red Robin over a similarly-disgusting facsimile of a burger. This manager followed me outside, berating me all the way, nearly instigating a physical confrontation himself had I not continued to walk away of my own accord (yes, I CC).

The persecution of customers for their opinions is a new paradigm in the customer satisfaction experience, without regard for anything pertaining to the ethnicity of the restaurant manager/owners.

There is no defense for this restaurant manager’s actions and some of the comments here are truly disturbing in that respect.
