I blame Disney for the anthropomorphization of animals leading to people having screwy ideas about wild animals leading to incidents like this.
There was a guy who befriended bears in Alaska but then when the cold weather came, they attacked him. Movie in 2005 about him.

You’d be surprised how dumb people are. And you can’t blame the bear.
I’ve heard crazy stories for decades about tourists taking family photos too near wild animals in Yellowstone. The strange phenomenon pre-dates the WorldWideWeb. I remember first hearing about it in the 70s, although I don’t know how often it happens. Probably more common now due to the “selfie” stuff, and we only hear about the bad outcomes.
Me too - in the 70’s I recall a story of a woman taking photos of her little daughter feeding honey to a wild bear. It ended poorly.
I’m NEVER surprised at how dumb people are anymore. It boggles my mind but doesn’t surprise me. Walk around in any large city and most of what you see is dumb.
I think this is a sun bear. The sun bear, though smaller than the grizzly, is considered more vicious.

As a teenager, I was in Yellowstone with my parents back in 1964 when a pick up truck with camper shell on the bed stopped in the road right in front of us. The camper top back window was wide open with two kids in the back as a black bear suddenly appeared and began sniffing around the back of the camper. I was in the front seat next to my Dad and quickly grabbed his 8mm film camera off of the seat and filmed the bear climbing into the back of the camper as the kids screamed. Luckily, the bear only grabbed a loaf of bread before taking off. I still have that film somewhere in a box in my garage.
