ROME, Italy: Italians were in uproar Monday over the decision by President Sergio Mattarella to reject the newly elected populist government in deference to European Union concerns, calling for his resignation or impeachment. This was the first time in the history of the Italian republic that a president had thrown out the proposal for a government from elected parties, and even critics of the populist victors have acknowledged that the Italian people will take the move as a slap to Italian voters and the entire democratic process.
The bone of contention, Mattarella said in his rejection speech, was the candidate for the post of finance minister, Paolo Savona.
I have agreed with and accepted all the proposals for the Ministers, except that of the finance minister, he said Sunday.
The designation of the finance minister always sends an immediate message, of confidence or of alarm, for economic and financial operators, he added.
Paolo Savona, whom even his critics admit is eminently qualified for the post, has expressed concerns over the growth in power and reach of the European Union (EU) as well as the common EU currency, the euro, which he has referred to as a German cage.

“If voting changed anything they wouldn’t let us do it”
The Italians haven’t had a decent gov’t since Julius Caesar killed the republic.
Ballots or bullets.
Ah, the will of the EU must be imposed over its states, I see.
We don’t need no stinking democracy.
To be fair, Augustus was quite good, which is a big part of why the Emperor role stayed.
Government in Italy is an odd affair, seemingly draconian to us in many ways, alarmingly loose in others and the people just ignore what they don’t like, openly flaut it in fact. This guy’s playing with fire, it can turn ugly as we saw with Mussolini at the end.
The Italian people need to set an example for Europe and the rest of the world -- reject international dictatorships, exit the EU, and by any means necessary.
Yep....let them Ceausescu their ‘leaders”

[snip] Mattarella summoned a former official at the International Monetary Fund, Carlo Cottarelli known as “Mr Scissors” for making cuts to public spending in Italy to the presidential palace on Monday morning, which was interpreted as a sign that Cottarelli would be asked to form a government of unelected technocrats. “After having 4 prime ministers not elected by the people:
- Monti (2011-2013)
- Letta (2013-2014)
- Renzi (2014-2016)
- Gentiloni (2016-2017)
The Italian president just asked Carlo Cottarelli to form a government. It would be the 5th consecutive unelected prime minister.”
If voting changed anything they wouldnt let us do it
True, so far. However the spilling of some ( government )blood would change that.
Interesting that the Italians call the Euro a ‘German Cage’.
At the same time, many Germans are nostalgic for a return of the German Mark.
The dream of a United European Union look to be in trouble.
Globalists - they love elections when they win. They use fraud to guarantee that win. When even fraud fails, they squawk and squeal. Here, it’s “Russia!” In Italy it’s “but the EU!” It’s time for nationalism to rise again.
>> The Italians havent had a decent govt since Julius Caesar killed the republic <<
I thought Constantine was a good guy.
But then, he did move the seat of gov’t from Rome to Byzantium.
So maybe the Italians don’t rate him as highly as would I.
Plenty at the link above. The EU has things well in hand.
Globalist scum world wide! This filth is exposing itself everywhere. I hope they all hang.
Elections are FRAUD! Everywhere.
This, and the UK un-Brexit and discarding of its judicial process, are not accidents.
Apparently the “elites’” answer to people demanding freedom and a representative government is to rush towards the police state immediately. Here, the tech “elite” similarly are busy trying to squelch free expression.
The only question is whether they win by a divided and incoherent response, taken down by the truth, or whether it gets very serious (and if so, who pounces on the opportunity while the West recovers itself).
