Bay City Rollers legend Alan Longmuir fights for life in Mexican hospital after contracting deadly virus on Cancun holiday

The 69-year-old was on holiday in the country with his wife Eileen when he took ill and was taken to the Galenia Hospital

BAY City Rollers legend Alan Longmuir has been rushed to hospital after falling seriously ill while on holiday.

The guitarist is reportedly receiving specialist care at the Galenia Hospital in Cancun, Mexico.

Longmuir, 69, had been enjoying a sunshine break with his wife Eileen before taking ill.

A message shared on Facebook page Bay City Rollers Pen Pal Reunion urged fans to pray for Alan.

The message reads: “Posted with permission of Alan and Eileen Longmuir.

“Unfortunately we need to inform all our friends that Alan has been taken seriously Ill whilst holidaying in Mexico.

“He has been admitted to hospital and is currently receiving Specialist Care for a virus that is attacking his vital organs.

“He is extremely unwell at the moment but has improved slightly since treatment has commenced. Eileen is with him and has been beside him throughout this awful situation.”

It continues: “We know you will all want to send loving, caring and healing thoughts to Alan as we understand how much you care for him. Please keep both Alan and Eileen in your hearts and prayers over the next few days.”

Fans joined in the well-wishing and left comments below.

Wendy Wessell said: “Sending healing prayers to Alan. May your road to recovery be quick and bring you back to full health.”

Maureen Laidlaw said: “My thoughts are with Alan and Eileen hope you make a good recovery Alan.”

Jane France said: “Sending big hugs please get well soon. Love from Australia.”

Sheila Norris said: “Hope things improve soon and you both can get home. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.”

I was thinking the same.....not a good place to be fighting for your life....in a Mexican hospital.

I had a friend almost DIE, over appendicitis, in a Mexican hospital, long ago.

Luckily, she was able to be flown out, back to the states, in time for serious intervention for a bad infection that had set in.

Chin up. Bay City Rollers founding member David Paton is great bassist, singer and writer. Left them and founded the band Pilot with guitarist extraordinaire Ian Bairnson. The members of Pilot were in Abby Road studio and happened to be available when Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson were working on the first Alan Parsons Project album. The members of Pilot became the backbone. David Paton sang and played on many APP albums.

I had no idea Paton was with the Bay City Rollers. And I've always considered Ian Bairnson to be one of the most critically underrated guitarists ever in rock.
