‘Incredibles 2’ Is Huge Hit But Now Comes With A Warning

People who are light-sensitive or epileptic began warning other film-goers on social media.

There is a strobe-light sequence in the picture that apparently caused some people to become nauseous.

Disney/Pixar believe the problem was serious enough to ask theaters to start posting signs warning about the sequence

People tweeted that the strobe effects the villain uses left them nauseous or worse — gave them a seizure

“So as a result, I walked out of the theater with a migraine,” said blogger Veronica Lewis.

That’s why Lewis took to twitter in a thread that’s now gone viral asking Disney & Pixar to do as their character says — make things right.

She makes it clear she thinks the strobe lights are integral to the plot. And she’s not asking for a boycott. She just wants viewers with photosensitive conditions to have a heads up. And the movie to come with a warning

Here’s a warning. Stay away from Disney, period. Don’t give the gay promoters a dime.

Thanks for the warning!

Warning considered.

Warning ignored.

Blogger is a pejorative because the media (and the blogger) employ the Appeal to Authority fallacy. If it's written down it somehow gains validity. Basic psychology of the attribution error.

And if blogger isn't a pejorative, what relevance does it have here? Obviously, the piece includes that information as a veiled - or unveiled - threat that negative publicity will follow. And, on cue, a television station reaching tens of millions has picked it up.

But I'm afraid my point stands. None of us can enjoy things in peace when we have scolds tapping us on the shoulder - metaphorically speaking - to tell us all the bad things that might result. It's insulting, it's pervasive, and it makes a number of assumptions which I will continue to challenge and oppose.

This role switching business - it’s keeping me away from this one.

Is this another ‘Dad is Stupid’ movie?

No. Just a working Dad out of his element. He learned fast and from my perspective ended up managing the family as well or better than mom.

No. Bob is hardly stupid. He's highly challenged to have to take care of the three kids on his own for the first time (especially one with 17 new powers). But the movie clearly depicts him as a loving father.

Not to give away too much, but there's a very tender scene where Bob apologizes to his daughter for messing up (won't tell you how he messed up). He tells her "All I ever wanted was to be a good Dad". Violet tells him "You're not a good Dad; you're a Super Dad!" and gives him a forgiving hug.

One of my favorite scenes.

OK, in general I agree with the premise of your dissertation in regard to the nanny state culture and having to modify the world for the few to benefit the few at the expense of the many. I have always had issues with that type of mentality.

Having said that, I had no clue that there was a high contrast strobe sequence that lasted for a minute or more and as a person who suffers from migraines and has a daughter that also has the same affliction - both of us having sensitivity to bright/flashing/strobing lights I do appreciate the warning/awareness.

Yes I would probably shut my eyelids and cover my eyes with my hands, but how do I then know when I can open them - how do I know how long the sequence lasts - there are myriad considerations. Sometimes a mere second of exposure to bright lights or the sun will set off a migraine for me, other times I can handle it fairly well. I do not always know what my exposure limitation is at every given second.

I modify my lifestyle to deal with it, I don’t expect anyone else to modify theirs for me. When I get a warning such as this; the first thing I think is “good to know, glad I found out beforehand”. Does Disney or anyone else NEED to warn me? No, but it is appreciated.

Did the blogger get a bit carried away and expect too much? I suppose it is debatable either way, but I would tend to agree that we don’t need some massive to-do about it.

Fair enough. I’m glad that reasoned debate can survive and even thrive here.

Hubby and I watched it last night. I loved it.

I can see where some of the special effects might bother some people but I believe they are necessary - a warning at the beginning of the movie wouldn’t bother me.

Interesting that we both have a 2004 sign up date (I just looked now). I’ve seen some ups and downs here, and have been personally less “enlightened” debate-wise in the past. I much prefer the back and forth we just had to less reasoned debate as well.

While that scene was showing, I got a little something in the corner of my eye.

Your “point” is pointless. An individual with a particular interest began pointing out something relevant to that interest, to people with the same interest. No need for you to get in a twitter about it.

I see. Shouldn’t have put that post on an “Incredibles 2” thread then, I would guess.

No, the fact is that you did ‘see’. You just can’t seem to say you were wrong. The post about ‘Hereditary’ was very clear. Your eyes were just blinded by the irrational take you have taken to attack everyone here posting something you don’t agree with. I also left a similar post (#5) about ‘Hereditary’ (one of the most popular movies out right now) because it is that horrid and I also felt it had absolutely no redeeming value.

I saw the movie Sat. There was a warning posted from Disney at the door of the theatre I went to.

I need my caffeine. But again, as a FRiend I will warn: I know sometimes a post like mine might tempt someone to go see a horror movie. And it sounds like you like movies. I do too. I usually read any warnings before going but with ‘Hereditary’ just decided last minute to go to a late show and thought it was typical horror shlock. It is not. I strongly urge you and anyone else interested to read every possible warning about content AND then stay home! There’s nothing creative or new. Just hideous garbage.

I enjoyed watching this movie yesterday with my adult children and wife. Good father’s day movie.

"Incredibles 2" was indeed an excellent movie - and the purpose of this thread, despite those attempting to hijack it to discuss some other unrelated movie.
