Any interesting, or noninteresting, dinners?
Where? This farm is in Cambridge Illinois. I simplified for the post but they are a hog operation. They trade with other livestock farmers and there was also beef, elk, and bison at the cookout. All good, but I’m especially fond of elk. My grandfather was a big promoter of Aberdeen Angus in Illinois.
Are there any discount (dented can) groceries in your area? We have a couple and there are some good values to be found there.
nope- hadn’t seen that one- We kid each other around here when asked if we’ve had lunch or dinner- sometimes one will say “I’m fine, I had a peanut’ or ‘all full up- had a grape’ or my favorite- “Yup- just got done eating an M&M’
Kansas State. I just had a young man from Illinois in my office yesterday. He is planning to finish his education here after a 2 year stint at a juco in Illinois (he told me but I have forgotten). He wants to establish residency here first so I helped line him up with some potential employment for a year at a couple feed yards in SW Kansas.
Although I am a beef guy I do love my pork and even a little lamb.
None that I specifically know of. I was lucky at WM. Then they didn’t adjust the price. I bought more later and cleaned out the shelf.
But then I thought well, they should know. So I called for two separate managers before I left the store entirely. I told them I felt like I was ripping them off because they had apparently forgotten to adjust the price. I offered to go right back out and get all of that product and bring them back for a refund. I had just put them in the car about 2 minutes earlier.
Each manager told me it was no problem and they appreciated me bringing it to their attention. Next time, I will call for a manager and bring it to their attention first. I also let them know about something I saw in the pet aisle but didn’t purchase. It appeared to be on the wrong hook with a price too low.
They always take good care of me at that store so i shop there often. They get about 60% of my grocery business. And they have a great clearance aisle. Most of the time you don’t find great stuff but about 1 in 5 there’s something they have really marked down (non-food).
Oops. s/b “so I shop there often”.
Tonight it’s smoked pork roast and spare ribs. Tomorrow it’s chicken spiedies over a fire.
Yum!
My dinner?....
“At a party last week, there was some high-class folks
Evrything on the table, an that aint no joke
They had barbecue possum, rattlesnake gravy
Chicken fried skunk, an it smelt real crazy”
“Evrything went fine, but one thing made me blue
A cat reached across my plate, for some armadillo stew
But just because you hungry, an happen to come in late
Dont you go reachin, across MY plate”
h/t Albert Collins
potato cheese perogis, sauteed with onions, and kraut on the side
I see that the kraut didnt bring the kielbasa to go with your perogis. Consider inviting a nice Polish grandma next time.
Good idea normally, but we are Russian Orthodox and don’t eat meat Wednesdays and Fridays.
Belated thank you!
