Netflix Is Removing Online Reviews In August
CNET ^ | 07/05/18 | KaitlinBenz

You'll no longer be able to post written reviews as of July 30, and then in mid-August existing written reviews will be removed.

Soon, it'll be a little harder for you to tell everyone what you thought of Marvel's The Avengers.

Netflix is removing a desktop-only feature this summer that allowed users to read and write reviews of TV shows and movies on its website. But the shutdown is coming in stages. People will no longer be able to write their feedback on a show, similar to a Yelp review of a restaurant, by July 30. And in mid-August, people will no longer be able to read existing user reviews on Netflix either.

"We have notified members who have used the feature recently," Netflix spokesperson Smita Saran said in an email Thursday.

This isn't the first time the company has changed a feature used to provide feedback on its offerings.

The streaming service used to allow people to rate programs with one to five stars. But, early last year, the company changed it to a simple thumbs up or thumbs down. Some people criticized the move as overly simplistic. Forbes contributor Paul Tassi said the new system was "the epitome of uselessness." Netflix, meanwhile, still uses the star-rating data and has said it has received more ratings under its thumbs-up-thumbs-down system.

Netflix's written reviews allowed users to explain why they doled out five stars, for instance, to Parks and Recreation. But they only ever appeared on Netflix's website, not its many apps, and a Netflix spokeswoman said the written reviews didn't influence the system Netflix used to recommend shows to you.

"This feature is only offered on the website and has seen declining usage over time," Saran said.

Saran is full of crap. Yeah right before Obama appears on Netflix this happens. Imagine my shock?.......(sarcasm off) Haha!!! I bet Obama demanded this.

It's not just Netflix. Many of the other major Fake Stream News sites (aka the Main Stream News) are taking away their comments section too. This is because studies show that the comments section are actually more influential to the public than the actual written article, movie, song, etc. In other words Leftist want to silence the public because like a cult they cannot handle a different opinion.

Unbelievable how Leftists are so pathetic that they can't even allow comments. I guess they know their B.S. can easily be shot down, and they can't take it since they are emotionally invested?

Pathetic!

Obastard coming on board is exactly why they are dropping the reviews.

IMDb dropped their comments section last year. Without it, there was little reason to visit. They cited “trolls”, but the real reason was “Conservative opinions.”

Well, there’s always IMDB and other venues. But venting right under the source has immediacy. Frankly, I’d rather vent on an aggregated site than either use multiple sign-ins or have Google or Facebook aggregate my comments for their own purposes .

They did? That invalidates my post #4.

I joined, but haven’t commented there much. But, I’d make an exception for Obama.

THAT comment didn't take long.

NETFLIX is volunteering for bankruptcy or wanting out of the game looking for a buyer.

Not only that, but the film company that released ‘Gotti’ is under fire. Critics and other early viewers give the film 0 on Rotten Tomatoes. The week of the release, reviews by ‘film goers’ gave it a 55%. But when people who started wondering started digging down, a huge number of the profiles had only been created within a month of the film release, and had no other reviews.

Social media manipulation is definitely present in all areas.

Sorry but you’re wrong. The written reviews on Netflix have been dying. You can only see them when you hit the website by browser, and only in the DVD side, not the stream. So it never would have effected the Obama show one way or the other. It’s a lot of stored data for no effect. People want to write reviews, go to IMDB or Amazon. Heck Amazon forces you to write a review, you can’t just hit the stars and move on, which is why I hardly review anything on Amazon, too much work.

Oh, IMDb still has “reviews” you can submit, but the comments section was where the lively debate took place where you could submit comments immediately. With reviews, it has to go through a process before it appears on the site. You can’t reply to reviews, only write one of your own, which isn’t the same.

Actually it was floods of anti-Semitism directed at Jewish filmmakers. I flagged a few which were instantly taken down but I guess they couldn’t keep up.

NETFLIX is preparing the way for OBAMA & MICHELLE. No reviews. Do think that will improve the viewership? LOL

You had all sorts of trolling (I witnessed more sex pervert posts than anti-Semitism), but the majority of the comments were productive. IMDb disregarded the wishes of the overwhelming majority of members who did not want it shut down. They had ample opportunity to put in anti-trolling safeguards, but refused to do it (such as banning accounts with multiple flagged posts and also putting a week or month delay in before permitting new accounts to post).

Rotten Tomatoes use to be a good and reliable for the average viewer.

However, over the last few years it was taken over by the the Hollywood elite and the people no longer have a say. So Rotten Tomatoes that was once highly respected is now a joke now. I do not trust their reviews at all.

I always go by what viewers say and ignore Rotten Tomatoes since it’s now where only the Leftist News Media critics are allowed to comment.

Where do you go to get reviews of brand new films just opening in theaters? That’s what I need them for.

The left is becoming increasingly open and vehement in its efforts to suppress free speech and dissent. The really bad thing is that they have an almost complete monopoly on the largest outlets of public speech, propaganda, and indoctrination, that being the mainstream media and academia. If we don’t find more effective ways to push back against this, even Christian churches are going to be suppressed. Just one example (and to me, a very infuriating one) is that they have managed to gain access to taxpayer funding of their agenda, through public funding of PBS and NPR. They have successfully characterised this as a neutral “public service” in the minds of the majority, when any objective accounting of their topics, and the slanting of the topics, shows the bias. They not only get away with the bias, they get away with forcing all of us to fund it through taxation.

I wonder if this has to do with Netflix being caught red handed running child pornography.
