I truly weep when I read the beautifully worded, weighty words of statesmen from the 1700s, and compare them to hateful drivel spouted by the mentally barren despots that populate our governments in 2018. Men like Franklin, Adams, Washington, and Sir Edmund Burke have no equal in today's political forum. Even those with significant formal education (many of whom are lawyers), rarely debate at a level above partisan sound bites. Burke's writings on the source of discontent in the American colonies were filled with truth, and so accurate in predicting what would happen if the British King insisted on imposing his will on people who wanted to be free: “When you drive him hard, the boar will surely turn upon the hunters.
