Cody Wilsons Defense Distributed and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) reached a settlement with the Department of Justice allowing unfettered publication of 3D gun files and other information in a case centered on free speech. Breitbart News reported that SAF filed a suit on behalf of Defense Distributed on May 6, 2015, seeking to free Wilson from a federal mandate that he not post blueprints for The Liberator pistol online.
Over three years later, the announcement comes that Wilson and SAF won.

Good news for 3D Printing of weapons.
This reminded me of the Netflix Lost in Space series with a 3D Printer that wouldnt allow the printing of a weapon without authorization. Then the Robot hacked it to protect Will Robinson.
Can he implement any safeguards in the print feature that would not instantly allow felons or mentally deranged people from downloading this ability just because they ask for it?
Cody had a workaround solution going in the years since 2015. You can buy a bench top 3D milling machine from him that is programmed to machine an AR lower.
The 3D files for this and many guns have been in the wild for years, available for free download. Presumably anyone could buy their own 3D printer and use Cody’s already-released data for his design. But it is good to hear the ruling was in his favor.
Being that a 3D printer costs many times more than a pistol and produces a semi functional weapon, buying one to get a gun is a clear sign of mental impairment.

Great news! Now mentally disturb kids on Prozac looking to shoot up a class room don’t need to break into the parent gun cabinet...and no background checks or waiting periods! Just a $200 3D printer. Viva Technology!
Only an idiot would assert that a 3d printer of the capabilities we're talking about costs $200...
It may be a good thing...
A gun produced on a $200 3D printer would almost certainly blow up in the criminal's face...
Plans for hydrogen bombs are also easily found online! They were also available in bookstores previous to that.
Unless you were born before Methuselah, gangs have been building weapons since before you were born and the government has used every variation for propaganda.
See zip gun, Saturday Night Special, plastic guns, cop killer bullets, body armor; suppressors, black rifles, and any noun modified by automatic, machine, or assault.
Want to really have some fun? Look up the Arnarchists Cookbook. It makes a great gift for any Prozac-laden misfit. Allows their lives to serve a purpose: exemplifying Darwinism in a social construct.
You raise a red herring. In addition what part of “the right to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed “ do you find complicated?

I read it, yes very good article. Someone above the thread said this is a stupid idea because of the cost. But that is not the point. The tech to allow me to print a weapon (untraceable) at anytime without anyones knowledge is what is important and awesom. It is unconstitutional for a seller of weapons to run background checks and the FBI files places you on a list. Its the same crap with registering vehicles and license plates. This is government overreach and tracking. The vehicle registration and drivers license is a government overreach. I know it very libertarian but its an overreach.
I read the Anarchist’s cookbook 25 years ago, and all I remember is how to make a grenade out of a shotgun shell (that explodes upon impact) and of course, napalm.
The right to keep and bare arms......where does it say manufacture?
Yeah, the napalm kinda sticks in your head. LOL
