The National Guard in Hawaii is warning of new, immediate dangers to people living near the Kilauea volcano some two-and-a-half months after the eruption started. At the same time lava flow is changing the outline of the island itself and creating hundreds of acres of new land where the ocean used to be.
The island has grown by nearly 700 acres, the equivalent of more than 500 football fields, reports CBS News' Carter Evans.

I think The DonaldTM might already be planning a resort there...
Some new, expensive beach front property soon?......
Lets put up some ocean view condos. Steam baths in all units.
How long before they can build a Walmart on that area?
Wouldn’t that cause the ocean to rise and like flood out like Los Angeles or something?
Then let's do it!
If it would work I would start throwing rocks in the ocean right away.
Actually according to demwit Nadler, if they built a Walmart on that lava it might cause the island to capsize or sink like Guam would do with 10,000 people.
Hmmmm.... That was actually dimwit Hank Johnson (D-Georgia) that predicted Guam would roll over. But Nadler is just as stupid and more dangerous.
The U.S. Coast Guard said an investigator is en route to look into the incident. The safety zone currently stands at 300-meters (984 feet) with no exclusions. That zone has been in effect since March 2017 and made permanent in May.--------------The captain of the vessel, according to the fire department, told first responders that the boat was about 200 yards offshore of the lava entry site.
Somebody's gonna be in some very hot water.
It’ll be a nice spot for a new 7-11 and a mcdonalds.
You’re right. I can’t keep up with the idiot left. Why waste time on idiots.
I was thinking more if all that lave is being added to one side of the Island won’t it cause it to tip over?
Please, Kilauea, keep spewing!
In another 100 million years it will be nice land.
The Coast Guard prohibits vessels from getting closer than 984 feet from where Kilauea volcanos lava oozes into the sea. The agency had been allowing experienced boat operators to apply for a special license to get closer up to 164 feet, but it stopped allowing those exceptions Monday morning.
And from the Comments section on the original article:
@bluemoki - This article is not accurate. The legal distance is 300 meters for non-permitted vessels, but for USCG-permitted lava tour boats it had been set at 100 meters. This was just changed by the USCG a few days ago to only 50 meters, despite the objections by one of the lava boat tour companies that this distance was unsafe. The other company, whose boat got hit, advocated for the closer distance and USCG agreed to it.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Unfortunately, people got hurt in the process.
