Woman killed by neighborhood dogs
Montgomery Herald ^ | August 10, 2018 | Montgomery County Sheriff Chris Watkins

Posted on 08/10/2018 3:03:59 PM PDT by Norski

released this statement Friday, August 10.

On Thursday, August 9, 2018, a resident of a Lake Tillery development on the western side of Montgomery County went missing while taking her daily walk. After several hours the 66 year old female did not return home. Her husband called neighbors and friends who searched the area. They were unable to locate her and call 911. Sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue were sent to the scene. Within hours she was discovered deceased on the side of an unused road within the development. An investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Medical Examiner’s Office, NC Wildlife Resources Commission and Animal Control. The investigation revealed she had been attacked by dogs. Law enforcement searched the neighborhood and located two pit bull dogs with physical evidence reflecting the dog’s involvement. The animals were taken into custody by Animal Control and are being quarantined. The owner of the dogs is cooperating with officials and the matter is still under investigation and review by the District Attorney’s Office. The name of the victim is being withheld until family members can be notified. The victim is being sent to the NC Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy. “This is a very tragic event, which has deeply affected the family, friends, deputies and first responders, our thoughts and prayers are being extended to all.”

Any post to a thread, even posts about how the thread shouldn’t be posted, simply bumps the thread to the top of the browse page so more can see it and possibly post and at think about the topic.

I want to know if well trained pits ever snap and maul their owners. I guess it is pretty well demonstrated by mauling victims that ‘sweet and lovable dogs’ have done this, but I have yet to read of a verifiably well trained pit bull doing it. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but it seems like the training or its lack is never brought up in the reporting.

Oh $hit. That’ not comforting. Not comforting at all. This dog behaves in a highly agitated manner like he really wants to get at you.

A valid question. You have requested this information previously, and I thank you for reminding me.

I do not know. I have heard that one of the classic items said by surprised owners is “that’s not like him. He never did anything like that before.”

Which, if investigated, usually turns out not to be quite true. Usually, there are aggression behaviors ignored in the hope that “it would go away”. Items such as food aggression, toy aggression, “Playful nips”, small animal aggression, escalating to human aggression.

And sometimes no markers at all, but a normally sweet-tempered goofy dog who at one point “snaps” or “goes game” (dogfighter term)
and begins to maul or kill small animals, livestock, etc.

This appears to happen most often at or around sexual maturity - 1.5-2 years old - but has happened at age 7 or later as well.

I do not remember if you are the poster discussing that 5% or fewer of dogs (actually, owners) have adequate training and/or obedience, but if this number is accurate, as it is about the percentage of pit bulls in the dog population (5%+/-), then the percentage of untrained pit bulls would be
at 95% of 5% of the general population of dogs.

I will continue to check. Thank you for asking. Norski

Thanks Norski. Keep up the good attitude on these threads, you won’t regret it.

Yeah, I try to always say ‘supposedly’ only 5% of dog owners bother to train their animals, because it was something I looked up on line a while ago. So who knows. It does seem to conform to my real life observation, like I have been around no well trained small dogs in my life, but I have seen them on TV. I would assume less pit bulls get trained simply because of the monstrous uses many get put to by scum.

. . .” The more living beings to whom a pit bull is exposed, or the more pit bulls are part of the scenario, the higher the odds that one or more living beings will be killed or injured.

Nearly 50,000 dogs, including nearly 47,000 pit bulls, killed or injured humans or other pets and/or farmed animals in the U.S. during 2017.
One pit bull in 80 kills an animal or human in any given year

Since there are only about 3.7 million pit bulls in the U.S. at any given time, the odds start at about one chance in 80 that any given pit bull will kill a human or animal in any given year––compared to about one chance in 24,666 that any given dog of any other breed will kill any pet or farmed animal.

That’s right: the odds are 308 times higher that a pit bull will kill a human, pet, or farmed animal in any given year than that a dog other than a pit bull will.

Multiply that one chance in 80 by the 10-year average lifespan of a dog, and about one pit bull in eight will become a killer––if the pit bull lives a normal lifespan. With a turnover rate of nearly 33% per year, and 50% for adult pit bulls, most do not live even half a normal lifespan. . . .” . .

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The above is an excerpt by an article titles: “Pit bull roulette” killed 38,000 other animals in 2017” by Merritt Cliffton of Anmials 24-7, link below:

https://www.animals24-7.org/2018/01/17/pit-bull-roulette-killed-38000-other-animals-in-2017/
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Before it is mentioned by anyone else, I am acknowledging that Mr. Clifton and his website are of leftist ideology. I disagree strongly with some of his views. However, his statistics - and there are many of them, over 35 years’ worth - not only correlate with insurance company statistics, but in some cases appear to go further, and their descriptions of the data-gathering are worth reading just for an example of how much other entities - to include HuffPo - hate what they are exposing as well. Strange bedfellows, indeed. The page labeled “Pit Stop Archives” is worth bookmarking. Norski

Norskinator, I for one want to thank you for your posts. I’m going to now read the comments from some freepers who choose to breath through their mouths metaphorically draped in bibb overalls and whisky stained&tattered complimented by Chef-boy-ardee heavy metal t-shirts (oh, I miss humblebummer)as a way of life while ignoring stone cold facts.

It would be appreciated if you would stop posting these hateful insidious threads on a daily basis.

It’s nothing but forum pollution and click bait. None of which is wanted on FR

I couldn’t find where it says those dogs were verifiably trained? She was supposedly taking them for a walk but it doesn’t get into details. Unless I am missing something?

Nothing good ever comes from any of these dog-hating threads. Nothing at all yet you persist in trashing FR. Why?

From the Dogsbite.org website commentary:

https://blog.dogsbite.org/2018/08/woman-66-killed-by-pit-bulls-in-lake-tillery-development.html

“Google Maps shows that there is only one substantial development on the eastern shore of Lake Tillery. The woman was taking her daily walk when it came to a violent end — she was horribly struck down by two loose pit bulls. The inclusion of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission in the investigation may have been due to excluding the possibility the attacker was a wild animal. This 66-year old female victim is the 545th person mauled to death by a pit bull in the United States.”

You owe your earthly existence to a pit bull.

As for breeding, I think of the type of people who must have bred those three boys that tried to have our father harmed or killed by those German Shepherds. Breeding of such boys to me is the greater danger.

BTW German Shepherds are great dogs. Yes, they can kill and maim but they are controllable more than pit bulls.

I once walked down a country road and walked through a field to shortcut around an intersection. A German Shepherd came out of nowhere with teeth exposed, snarling. I stepped back on the road and the German Shepherd stopped right at the property line, That dog knew precisely where the line was. It kept barking and snarling at me but wouldn’t come on the road to attack me. Finally, there was a whistle from someone at the farmhouse of the property and the dog stopped barking snarling, turned around and ran back.

I don’t think pit bulls would be so easy to control.

Is your expression of hate maintained in a consistent state? If so, I stand by my initial comments. It is much more healthy to consistently exercise expressions of love, rather than hate.

What they did to her would be difficult to untrain I would think. If they turn on you after lovenly raising them from pups, well what can you say. There is not a trainer in the country that would finacially gaurentee this breed would committ no violence, even under the best of circumstances. She trusted them and they ate her.

I have no idea. I just never see one of these stories where anyone comes out says the animal is trained, or not. Supposedly only 5% of dog owners bother to train their animal, I would guess that is way less for pit bulls.

Well, I do think I should consistently hate evil.

But that does not mean I cannot love at the same time.
