The diet that has worked for me is whole foods....processed as little as possible, no added ingredients. Two 4oz (or so) meat servings a day. Whole grain bread and cereals. Next to no milk fat. No mystery sauces. Plenty of fruits and veggies. And I'm not tired. The other item on my "diet"....two brisk walks ever day and an AM upper body exercise routine.
I know there's no diet that works for everyone. But a diet that leaves out vitamins and minerals? It doesn't pass the common sense test.
Freepers, please enlighten me where I err.
There is no reason not to take a multivitamin & magnesium on a lo-carb diet, and I do just that along with D, extra C and a few other things.
Many woman past 50 don’t absorb B12 well and need supplemental B12 by another route. In earlier times they got B12 shots now there are some good products applied daily as a pump of skin cream, one example MAXASORB BioActive B12 Cream.
That is the first thing I suggest to friends and they have reported good results. Since that is a “does no harm” suggestion I am free with the advice. After that point there are many things unrelated to diet that cause fatigue and a medical check up for the most common would be best.
I’m guessing there’s something wrong other than diet.
I like the idea of clean food but there are lots of people with boundless energy who eat food that would never pass muster with the clean food crowd so I’m going to say that’s not the problem.
I drink about a quart of heavy cream weekly plus lots of other dairy and I just spent two months in the middle of the desert humping it daily and I had plenty of energy. I don’t think dairy is the problem.
Naturally lettuce is worthless as a source of nutrition other than fiber. Maybe look there but I’m guessing the problem is somewhere else.
Tell her to get some mushrooms and Fresh Kale and green beans and celery and carrots and broccoli and onions and a bit of garlic and sautee it up in some butter and olive oil and you have a lot of the stuff you need.
.
She needs to drop the half&half, and switch to raw whole milk.
Pasteurized dairy products are deadly.
Can you see my previous posts on this thread? I know exactly what is bothering your friend. To the keto diet she needs to feed her gut biome some resistant starch and I laid out how in another post I just wrote to another keto guy.
Grass fed meat/chicken and dairy is best...avoids some of nasties of cafo raised animals
Actually, from my own experience and that of others in the facebook group, the fatigue is usually not enough salt & water, and just plain old not eating enough. Eat until full, not some prescribed portion.
Actually if you eat enough fresh meat and fats you will get all the vitamins you need. Eating *carbs* actually necessitates the need to supplement your vitamins.
It sounds like you are on exactly the right track.
I have to admit that I knew this article would stir the pot a bit. No one loves home made barbecue more than I do. My favorite is pork ribs either smoked or depending on the cut using a little higher temperature indirect charcoal heat and adding some hickory pellets in a smoking tube. I love bacon in a breakfast meal or potato salad as well.
Unfortunately I have noticed that nothing puts weight on me faster than my grill and smoker. And that includes my sweet tooth. So I only barbecue or smoke a big meat meal once a week. The rest of the week I try to by moderate and balanced on everything.
To me there is nothing sillier than people who adopt some questionable philosophy that they use to choose the foods that they eat. Practically everyone that I have known who has gotten emotional while arguing about their diet philosophy had ended up having a bad outcome. Sometimes very bad... like they ended up with diabetes, heart problems, strokes and ended up dead. When you leave common sense out of your food choices... bad things happen.
