The Eagles have flown past Michael Jackson’s Thriller to take the record for the best-selling album of all time.
Recording Industry Association of America confirmed to the Associated Press on Monday that the band’s 1976 compilation album, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975), has been certified 38x platinum, which means sales and streams of the album have reached 38 million copies. That officially puts it ahead of Thriller, which has been certified 33x platinum.
That’s not even the limit of the Eagles’ record-selling dominance. In addition to grabbing the No. 1 spot, the band also has the third-best-selling album of all time: 1977’s Hotel California, which is now 26x platinum.
“We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It’s been quite a ride,” Don Henley said in a statement.

I'm surprised they are even still selling as you can cherry-pick whatever songs you want individually these days - or just stream them. With digital formats, you can make the "greatest hits" of any artist whatever you want it to be.
I have playlists of most of my favorite artists and they in no way mirror any official "greatest hits" compilations put out by the record companies. And why should they? Everybody's "greatest hits" compilation is subject to their own preference.
A more pure way of determining best selling recordings is to count the number of times a particular song or album is downloaded (purchased) or streamed (rented) in addition to any sales of physical media (which I believe is on the verge of being immaterial).

Agree. In fact, listened to it this morning on my Sirius/XM, 70’s channel I think. Btw, the best all time road-trip song imho is Eagles Take It Easy.

As a side note. My 20 year old son(I am 55) listens to the music I grew up on. He loves the Talking Heads, Dire Straits, Meatloaf, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, etc. He does not like Rap or Hip/Hop or Country or pop artists. Most of the CD’s he has in his car are my old ones.
If you watch the documentary on the Eagles you’ll come away thinking Frey and Henley are two of the biggest jerks in Rock music...............and that is saying a lot. They were both a couple of left wing propagandists. Felder seemed a lot more down to earth.

yep, to name a few on my list as well. The fact is, thee folks were great legends. They practiced daily. The new generation tends to avoid hard work and practice and that is reflected in many of the "artists" who spend more time at the clubs or the beach than in the studio or practicing.
The Eagles’ version of “Trying to Get to You” came out in 1954. Elvis Presley’s version came out in 1955.
Eagles are the most over-rated band ever.

No, because none of the Eagles were in the Stone Poneys. That group was an earlier backup band in Ronstadt’s career, in the 1960s.
The Eagles, or the ‘proto-Eagles’, were recruited by Ronstadt as backup for a Disneyland gig in 1971.
Frey played with Bob Seger back in Michigan in the late 60s.
Smash Mouth was pretty good. You’d recognize a couple of their songs.

I like Elton John’s yellow brick road. A lot of pop hits on that one.
I prefer Mrs. Miller’s rendition of the classic hit, “Downtown”. Such a snappy little tune.....
