Why are Americans so suffocatingly weird about their kids nowadays? In a 2016 Pew survey, only 30 percent of parents said kids should be allowed to play in a public park unsupervised before theyre 13 years old, though the countrys streets have never been safer. And yet, this style of care doesnt seem to benefit anyone involved: not kids, not society, and definitely not the parents themselves. Caregivers cling to their charges, afraid of everything and nothing in particular. We have to save the kids, but if pressed on why or from what or what are you doing, we cant always answer.
My 12 yr old nephew gets driven to the bus stop every morning which is literally 4 houses down the street.

they are not as safe as in the “old days” for in the old days there would be a ton of kids walking to school, around and about in the area.
now people with free range kids have them ranging alone. There are no longer eyes on the streets, except for cameras which are there for security (ie find the perp versus safety ie stop the crime) there are no parents in the homes in middle class land, the moms are all working, and when walking these days a child is totally isolated.
ahh...the Big Wheel off the ramp! A classic!
One of the reasons that my mother developed a white-hot seething hatred for Evel Knievel. He inspired all of us boys to build homemade ramps and attempt daredevil stunts. I honestly believe she would have ridden a Greyhound bus all the way to Montana just to kick that man in the groin.
The notifications available in my area include the photo and address of the sex offenders in my area along with age, race, tattoos. I hope they do so for your area as well.
