Geez, people, a little healthy skepticism is in order here. Google Dr. Daniel Amen. The guy is a quack. A very rich quack whose SPECT brain scan isn’t supported by science. He gained notoriety by claiming that he can scan the brain and then prescribe supplements that will fix the “problem.” He even said his supplements increased his daughter’s intelligence. IOW, a nut.

My comment was specifically addressing the relative brain damage of the two substances.

Are you really able to find people who believe marijuana harmless? I haven’t heard such tripe in 40 years.

But I’m sure you’d agree the harms must be reported accurately and honestly to be of any value.

Really??? 40 years??? Much bolder and more specific claims have been made in other threads on Free Republic but, T-Bone Texan said in post 26,

“There is a component in pot that that has anti-cancer properties - It could possibly save countless lives and decrease suffering in a big way.
I'm glad to see you admit that, even if you did so in a dismissive and smart alecky way.
You should want people to suffer and die early, because to do otherwise is against the law, said no normal conservative ever.”

I wonder how much smoking? Does it say (I am at work and it wont let me go there.)

Just smoking one joint 30 years ago is different than smoking all day, for 30 years.

...they are convinced they are smarter than everyone else.

Not trying to pick a fight, but that is a statement that sounds like someone convinced they are smarter than everyone else, but no one else knows it.

Chemo therapy has anti-cancer properties, and I doubt he’d call that harmless too.

Don’t get me wrong: I am an unabashed supporter of full nationwide legalization.

But I don’t believe it harmless.

And I also don’t believe it as harmful to society as the War on Pot.

It’s about relative harm.

If people want to, and do, smoke pot I believe that is less harmful than a government desirous and ABLE to prevent it. And, I believe it less harmful than myriad other drugs, both legal and illegal.

“More recently, scientists reported that THC and other cannabinoids such as CBD slow growth and/or cause death in certain types of cancer cells growing in lab dishes. Some animal studies also suggest certain cannabinoids may slow growth and reduce spread of some forms of cancer.”

And, according to the American Cancer Society, marijuana show promise in the direct treatment of cancer.

So, perhaps, you owe the T-Bone an apology.

My daughter worked as a drug and alcohol councilor. She said that pot abusers were the most difficult to treat because none of them thought their abuse was a problem. She said that people being treated for alcohol, heroin, meth, coke and other things realized that they had issues and needed help.

Not as if most pot users don’t use other drugs.

So, perhaps, you owe the T-Bone an apology.

Do you understand what chemo-therapy for cancer generally is? The majority of the time it means taking a poison that is more harmful to cancer cells because healthy cells can regenerate themselves better and more quickly. It does not mean that the poison is good for you other in this perverse sense. This is the same reason why taking arsenic and mercury was accepted medical practice for venereal disease before antibiotics became available.

And most of the time the goal of those who argue for legalization is to confuse the issues. In my experience since marijuana was “legalized” here four years ago the problems related to marijuana use in the general population have gotten much worse.

Or, the pot-headed, back hole, drug user smokes it while he is driving; and then almost swerves into you on your motorcycle on a 4-lane highway.

This has been my wife's and my experience as well. People are willing to admit that they have problems with alcohol and other substances. But it makes no difference how bad their issue is, very few will admit that they have a problem with marijuana. And we are talking about people who sometimes literally do nothing but smoke or ingest marijuana all day long every day and are having significant health issues related to their usage.

Most of the marijuana advocates here know people like this or have been or are currently in similar situations, but they refuse to admit any of it. This refusal to face a reality that almost all adults are aware of should be one of the most troubling warning signs regarding marijuana legalization. Legalization proponents lie even about fundamentals which are common knowledge.

Even two or three vape draws were hard on me. So I’m going back to CBD in tincture form. I don’t like feeling high anyway.

Spot on.

I have lived (at separate times) with an alcoholic and a pot smoker. I would choose the pot smoker, despite the fact that the alcoholic was a very close family member.

The alcoholic could be unpredictable and violent while the pot smoker was mellow, relaxed and safe.

Motorcycle? Meeee!!? No way, I’m riding along in my minivan “cage” enjoying max A/C while the temp shows 105 F. and a biker couple passes me on their Harley Hog. They then swerve in front and I turn on the wipers because their sweat is covering the windshield. Free spirits, indeed.

;^)
