Authorities say a South Carolina woman has been charged with murder after killing her husband by putting eye drops into his water for several days. York County deputies said 52-year-old Lana Clayton confessed to investigators after an autopsy uncovered a high amount of tetrahydrozoline in her husband's body. The chemical is found in over-the-counter eye drops such as Visine. Authorities say 64-year-old Stephen Clayton was found dead July 21 in the couple's home in Clover. Arrest warrants and the statement from deputies didn't give a motive for the alleged poisoning. Lana Clayton also is charged with malicious tampering with a drug product or food. Jail records did not indicate if she had a lawyer.

I am, however, surprised she couldn't keep a lid on her nefarious plan.

I hate to tell you all this but you could drink cups of visene with no nasty side effects other than a tummy ache. It is a myth to keep waitresses sane. When they have a nasty customer they will sprinkle some on their food. It is a complete and utter myth spread by people higher in the house to keep Miss Sally from bashing the ahole in the head with a coffee cup.

After the movie Wedding Crashers came out with the cool lead characters poisoning a romantic rival with eye drops with “hilarious” results... we responded to a rash of related medical calls. They were mostly teenagers and assorted other idiots who sometimes actually drank the eyedrops themselves, but were mostly the victims of their acquaintances who did it as a “joke”.
The stuff is very dangerous and can cause real and sometimes permanent damage, unconsciousness, and even death as this story illustrates. My assumption is that this woman was trying to torture her husband and not kill him.
