Having watched a lot of baseball (and not much else programming) I have seen so many commercials where the white male is portrayed as dumb, bumbling or stupid while women, children and "people of color" are the wise, composed, and rational. No doubt this marketing approach has been tested and proved acceptable, but I still find myself irritated every time I see it. While boycotting products marketed this way may or may not be effective I have wondered what the impact would be if some creative politically incorrect film maker would produce parodies of these ads where the white male is portrayed in the absurd extreme that the Wall St. ad becomes distasteful by association. Perhaps these would receive great social media attention. They could be generic or brand specific although my preference would be brand specific.
As an example, I picture a drooling husband wearing protective head gear (maybe too extreme!) with his sophisticated wife shopping for a car where the smarter wife makes the "wise" decision after the drooling husband expresses his foolishness. The commercial transitions somehow where the husband is portrayed as a successful businessman that makes the car purchase possible while still appearing as a drooling fool.
I see it whenever I watch TV (mostly by accident, some place that has the TV on).
It is disgusting, and entirely political.
Some might say it is payback for I Love Lucy, but at least Lucy was attractive on the hot/crazy spectrum.
One of the first was for Wisk, and included the line “ancient Chinese secret, huh?”
Typical. As the 13-year-old black female computer genius.
Well, I would say there is plenty of doubt when it comes to that. Especially if the goal is to push a political agenda, one that is both racist and sexist.
No doubt this marketing approach has been tested and proved acceptable
I haven’t watched American TV for at least 10 years. Even Mainland China TV is better than American TV, but I mainly watch Korean or Japanese TV.
American TV is raunchy, crude and poorly made. Most focuses on homosexual themes, feminism and putting down men.
Hollywood has done this for years. Look at all the popular shows where the male is an insensitive bumbling idiot. The wife is so perceptive and constantly schooling the male on being sensitive and understanding,etc.etc.
Bingo! Made for political correctness, and tanking in the ratings.
Coincidentally, at a young age I found Wisks ring around the collar ditty to be obnoxious and denigrating. I wasnt disappointed when the brand was discontinued.
I suppose I was giving Wall St. too much credit. Deep down inside I believe you are right.
There is a war on White men.
This has been going on since the 80s.
This has been going on for a long time.
It is perceptual manipulation.
Now white men have black men or women leading them
No white women have white men, all men with them are ethnic or black.
All women wear scarves around their necks to prepare them for the next step -veils.
Our culture is being killed and whites are being marginalized. .
The guy taking care of the baby listening to instructions from the wife on Alexis(??????) drives me NUTS..
