The headline alone intrigued me enough to read the story, LOL.

They need a few good "land guys" to straighten them out.

I remember many years ago when Prince Charles’ ship visited Pensacola, he and his mates visited a well known local bar.

Doubt if they got drunk tho.

Or put him into bed with the Captain’s daughter.

I used to be stationed at El Centro, CA, which was winter home for Blue Angels - so I got a lot of air shows for free!

Anyway, one time, the Brits came with their own aerial stunt crew and parachute-people (who would jump out of planes and hold hands before deploying parachutes and what not).

El Centro is a rather small place (I lost my virginity there but that's a story that I'm not ready to tell) so only a few drinking spots and I must say, those Brits did like to drink. Now they came with the whole ground crew and that's who we all drank with because the pilots went off to the officer's club or some swankier place. One one of those nights, we got especially out of hand. We were playing a tape of George Thorogood in concert and one of the Brits produced a tape of Rory Gallagher, who I take it, was their answer to Thorogood.

After a few hours, two of those crazy Brits stripped naked and hung from the rafters upside down. That was also the same night that I was picked up and thrown over the bar into a refrigerated glass case of beer which shattered all over the place. I was completely unhurt and I had no idea why they decided to toss me over the bar! But the owner of the bar was very upset on account of all the damage and next day, we all got dressed down by the brass back on base.

Well, normally I’m jingoistic toward all things American but Rory Gallagher could wipe the floors with George Thorogood!

We trained with the British Army during ReForGer exercises in Germany in ‘77-’78. We couldn’t drink alcohol on these exercises but the Brits would sure break for tea time at 2:00pm, great guys.

When it comes to Brits and drunken fights, it ain’t just the military.

British Sailors,...getting drunk,...and fighting each other??? Say it ain’t so!

How in hell is this news. I worked with Brits and thats exactly what they do. They drink like fish. I tried ONCE to keep up with them at a Dining In. I paid a huge price. And they love to rough house. That’s the only part about drinking with Brits and Aussies that I don’t like. They’ll fight just because. They love it. It’s what they do. Leave them alone and let them have fun.

And the singing of Tom Jones songs. They didn’t mention that in the story.

Absolutely on Rory Gallagher vs. George T..... and add two other incredible blues telecaster players.... both of whom suicided and were a huge loss..

Roy Buchanan and the incomparable Danny Gatton. See both on youtube and see if you agree. Gatton was simply phenomenal, one whom James Burton said was off the charts, and spoke through his guitar.

If I was a woman I’d be down at the dock waiting for the fleet to come in.

Daddy’s combat engineer battalion spent two weeks with a British engineer battalion learning how to build bailey bridges.

He said every morning at 10, they would halt everything and have tea.

When their ship debarked in Liverpool, each soldier was given a booklet on proper etiquette in England. One thing was not to complain about their coffee.

Years and years ago a few of us Army buddies were at a port bar in Bremerhaven, Germany, while a British Navy ship was doing a port call.

We were chatting in a booth and the Brits started tossing coasters at us and one buddy told them to knock it off.

One of the Brits answers with “Ohh! You’re Yanks! We thought you were the F’en Krauts! We were going to beat your bloody A$$es!”

And that is how one night I got liquored with some Brits in North Germany.

Debark was proper usage:

“verb
-leave a ship or aircraft.
-unload (cargo or troops) from a ship or aircraft.”

Not behavior unique to the Brits. Back in the early 70s, you could be sitting in a quiet San Diego bar when suddenly 20 or 30 drunken sailors who just got their first shore leave in months come rolling in and looking for trouble. More seasoned Marines were smart enough about these recurring events to duck out a side or back door but it was always peculiar to note that if they could not find any Marines or whomever else to fight they would start fighting each other, until the shore patrol came in and bounced them to the brig. Drunken groups of Marines were not immune to this behavior either. It only took one close call escaping the shore patrol for me to understand that this was stupid behavior, even for a drunk Marine.
