The Active would compete head to head with Corolla, Civic and Elantra. Not sure those cars make much profit to start with. If competitors don’t have tariffs, the Chinese Active couldn’t compete.
Might end up with no small, cheap cars on the US market at all as has happened with pickups because of tariffs.
Probably part of a long-term plan to make personal transportation too expensive for average Americans.

good point about the union. they have certainly contributed to their own demise and the destruction American know-how and entrepreneurship and it’s replacement with crony capitalism. as i’ve said many times here, big unions are a leg on the stool of leftism in this nation, and need to be broken up like any monopoly.
however, aren’t there right to work states here that ford could use instead of china? and isn’t a plant closure enough of a stick to get the attention of even the uaw? did current Ford mgmt bother to talk with the union and even the workers separately about it?

Thanks to the UAW, No they don't. Govt. CAFE is the culprit not unions.

No. All Ford plants stateside have to be UAW. And US suppliers are under relentless pressure to let the UAW in. The problem is that once in, they’re like cancer, departing only when the host dies. That’s why Detroit tries to minimize US-sourced parts. Foreign makes doing US assembly have made clear to their workers that letting the UAW in means an end to US production. That’s why UAW drives there have repeatedly failed.

Maybe you love shakedown rackets (unions in a nutshell) more than you love the USA.

All automakers are subject to CAFE. And yet the Japanese make money on small cars. The day the UAW is decertified will be the day Detroit finally can breathe easy. Unfortunately, that will likely happen only when the Big 3 either liquidate or cease stateside production.

That’s because they’re UAW-free.

My point was towards Ford having turbochargers in nearly everything - and that there is a noticeable performance drop with regular.

They look just like Japanese blister bugs, and cost plenty.

Well,it looks like if we were rid of CAFE,UAW,& Chinese business non-ethics,we might be able to make & sell affordable decent cars here.

That was the point I was trying to
convey. Performance in a high output
computer controlled engine is dependent
on many variables. Cylinder temps,
altitude, quality of fuel, timing,
cylinder pressures, all play a part.
Not ALL Dodge Demons with a 700 hp+
engine, when run below “recommended”
octane levels will ping or knock, or
run the risk of melting pistons. Pushing
them hard on below recommended octane
would allow for more potential of failure.
I ran a 450 hp 5.0 with 10.5:1 compression
over 600 miles with 87 octane. It was all
I could find after a major snowstorm
affected gasoline deliveries.
(The recommended octane rating for the
tune in the 5.0 was 93).
The engine suffered no damage.
