I can’t see this helping the market the the ‘hood. Three slices a day every work day doesn’t seem like too much an employee benefit. And to bring criminal charges? They could have just let her go if they took it that seriously. Three slices!

Really? Someone watched this happen for 5 years and said nothing? Suddenly someone gets a huge butthurt and reports it.. hmmmm, the story is never really about the story..

As a teen, I worked at a meat market and butcher shop/small factory (back in the days when local butcher shops still cut-up whole sides of beef).
The owner let us eat whatever we wanted. In fact for lunch he’d often cook something for the guys that we wouldn’t have bought for ourselves - rib roasts, tenderloins, etc...
Of course, most of the crew were career guys there, had work-related injuries, the owner knew their families, etc...
a very different mentality.

I inhaled chicken from the hotel buffet in mass quantities. They charged me $1.05 a day for meals. Hell, I drank more pepsi a day than that, never mind all the chow I devoured. Burp! I miss it...

Sure, you could charge her with a felony. Or you could fire her. Or you could say, hey, knock it off. Or you could look the other way and forget it. If she is a good worker otherwise Id lean to the latter.

Theft is theft. We've become way too comfortable with stealing in this country. Theft has become a major problem in retail, and I know from experience that it became much worse during the Obama years (not a coincidence, I'm sure).

There is truth to that old proverb "eating you out of house & home". In this case though it's more like "eating away the profits & goods". When supermarkets has rats that are eating away the products, don't they just put out rat bait to just eliminate the problem?
I once saw a similar situation at a warehouse where a guy was caught eating out a case of food. The manager just billed him for the whole case and told him to take his partially eaten case with him off the premises to enjoy. He then instructed the HR dept setup salary deduction for the case of food over a time period.
When the guy tried to make a big fuss out of it, the manager simply explained that he was fully within his rights to do everything that he did. The more severe choice that he could have done was to have him fired & arrested for theft of company goods.
This way: a) the guy kept his job b) he had his case of food to keep enjoying c) he's getting a great deal at wholesale pricing and d) it's a gradual salary deduction.

7 Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk? 8 Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesnt the Law say the same thing? 9 For it is written in the Law of Moses: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.[b] Is it about oxen that God is concerned? 10 Surely he says this for us, doesnt he? Yes, this was written for us, because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest. 11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? 12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldnt we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Dont you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? 14 In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
1 Corinthians 9:7-14

It seems like the sane solution here would be firing the employee, not getting the police involved. Wouldn’t be surprised if union protection prevents an easy termination process.
