Some 25% of the membership of the International Battalions that fought in the Spanish Civil War were Jewish; most all were either diehard Communists or Socialists.
Comment: Once we started supplying the Brits, our fate was sealed - we were in the war, like it or not. FReepers with limited knowledge of those times would do well to spend time on YouTube both with Victor Davis Hanson, and reviewing the excellent Spanish Civil War documentaries.
Lindbergh makes no mention of the Communists
For all of Lindbergh’s faults, you have to give him credithe flew combat missions in the Pacific as a civilianFDR refused to let him serve in the Army Air Force.
Hitchens's essay pretty much said that nobody cared about the plight of the Jews. Not England, or the US, or Russia, or anyone. It certainly was not a motivating factor for entering the war. Then again, most people don't have the imagination to envision the horrors.
I'm sure some people figured the Jewish persecutions in Germany were no worse than the Jim Crow laws in the USA.
Thanks! So did he ever renounce it or give it back? Where is that medal now?
Well Lindbergh’s actions and comments sidelined him from the war for a long time and finally he was approved to go to the South Pacific to train Army pilots in fuel conservation...He was unofficially credited with downing two zeros.
>> ... he was in favor of what was going on.
I dunno - maybe he just liked the snappy marching:

(That, BTW, is the Lambeth Walk - lots of it on YouTube.)

Apparently, you missed what he plainly said here:
"Behind these groups, but of lesser importance, are a number of capitalists, Anglophiles, and intellectuals who believe that the future of mankind depends upon the domination of the British empire. Add to these the Communistic groups who were opposed to intervention until a few weeks ago, and I believe I have named the major war agitators in this country."
FReegards!
I’ve been rethinking WWII in Europe. I recently read Shirer’s “Berlin Diary” and he describes his astonishment at the complete lack of response from the French army to the German invasion. That makes me question the wisdom of sacrificing American lives to liberate people who wouldn’t fight for themselves. Then, since the invasion of Poland seems to have launched the whole mess, what good did it do to fight the Germans to rescue Poland and Eastern Europe from the totalitarian Nazis only to hand it all over to the totalitarin Communists at the end of the war?
More likely true than not.
And Lindbergh said... what here that was incorrect? By the autumn of 1941, pointing out that America’s Jews wanted the US to join the fight against Hitler was like observing that water is wet... except Lindbergh got slimed for it. Read also where he describes how America First followers are being treated... eerily like Trump supporters are abused and lied about today.

I have a little collection of photos of Frankfurt-am-Main after the war that I look at when I’m feeling blue. Never fails to cheer me up to think of Nazis being incinerated by American bombers.
He greatly admired German air power. He went over and hobnobbed with the Nazi bigwigs.
When the japs bombed Pearl, he was on Roosevelt’s case to take him back into the Air Corps. Roosevelt refused, so he get some gig as a “technical consultant” and flew around the Pacific to make it seem as if he were some kind of ace.
His heroics were over after Paris.
Did he know Joe Sr. or Henry?
Read it. Thanks.
Lindbergh knew everybody. He was probably the most famous person in the US.
