Crashing a device, not so hard
Crashing, and then executing malignant code
That’s hard
I give this guy a Meh
Same here. Figuring out how to completely overload the graphics chip, meh.
Tested
It does crash a 6S running iOS 12/Safari
Also note, I spent 3 days on the phone trying to resolve the issue, including sending them numnerous diagnostic reports that did nothing to solve the issue. I eventually did get a new phone but that was of course only the start of the fun.
Bottom line advice, surrender to two realities: 1. Youll just have to make a Genius Bar appointment and yes probably have to wait a week or more for just that (and dont even be 1 minute late!). And even then youll probably have to give up your phone for a replacement. But dont dare go into a store expecting to just get a replacement. Youll be treated like crap (Sir, you need to make a Genius Bar appointment. But my phone is broken cant you see that? It doesnt matter, you still need to make an appointment).
2. Do *not* let them try to take your phone away and send you a new one (assuming your sons phone is under warranty). Make them give you a new phone on the spot. There is *zero* reason they cant (they have tons of new phones in the back). If its not under warranty then yes, just buy a new phone. Its absolutely not worth the few hundred bucks in savings given the extreme hassle I described in the linked post above.
Finally if you can convince yourself that Android phones are just as secure say screw it to Apple and get an Android. The only reason I stick with Apple after that outrageous level of service is because no one has been able to convince me Androids are just as secure. But if you are so convinced just drop the worthless brick in the nearest garbage bin is my best advice.
My old 6 was doing that ..... took it to get a new battery as it was old and dropped a charge fast. As well it started to lock up, touch screen wasn’t working. A hard restart was only solution. Anyway the tech kid at a local shop listened to my description of the devices woes and then said it was a problem with just the iPhone 6. He said he’d love to sell the parts to me and install a new battery and touchscreen but it wouldn’t fix it ...... woe wuz me thus I bought an X .
I’ve discovered code on the many news web pages that prompts me to throw my phone to the ground, stomp on it and shout “Tim Cook is a transgender-promoting, Cadillac Communist who censors freedom lovers around the world, while leaving up jihadis like Louis Farrakhan!”
