Greetings From Vulcan? Planet Discovered Orbiting the Star of Spock's Homeworld in "Star Trek"

Star Trek’s Spock comes from the planet Vulcan, which of course doesn’t exist. But new research might give us the next best thing—an exoplanet orbiting the real-life star that Vulcan is said to be orbiting in the Star Trek universe.

In 1991, Gene Roddenberry wrote a letter to Sky & Telescope about what kind of star the planet Vulcan was likely to orbit. In that letter, he specifically picks out one such star, 40 Eridani. Later, 40 Eridani became the canon Vulcan star system featured in a handful of episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Our off-world colonies are doing fine.

Um... I wasn’t supposed to say that out loud, was I?

This just in: Astronomers have received some transmissions from the newly discovered planet.

Among the many great things of the original series is its music which is head and shoulders above the bland vanilla music of the other series. That battle music used in multiple episodes besides Amok Time and Spock's mind meld music were integral parts of a scene, not just background. TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise all had Vulcan mind melds and each time I was completely deflated that Spock's music was not used.

Dammit. Now we'll have to brain wipe the whole population. Well, except for the leftists, for obvious reasons.
