More than five million riders crowd into New York Citys subway on an average workday, and officials say some of them are making everybody late.
At the 34th Street-Penn Station stop, Frank Gallagher thrust his foot between the closing doors of an uptown 2 train on a recent morning and wedged his way inside. I made up my mind I was going to catch that train, said the 57-year-old entertainment industry union rep. Im five minutes late as it is.
But nothing enrages commuters more than train delays. Except, maybe, blaming commuters for train delays.

MTA always blames the passengers. And they're the ones with the loudspeaker.
There’s a snip between the 3rd and 4th paragraphs. Didn’t show up.
The ruling elite officials blame the unwashed masses again ... wonder why they even suffer them the blessing of a subway in the first place.
partial NYC list ping
They ought to turn the system over to the Taiwanese. We go over there once in a while. The trains are on time to the minute and ultra clean inside.
The train/ subway system under Taipei was a 4 yr project completed in 3 yrs and under budget. The rooms underground are beyond huge and tiled. built so well that big earthquake they had a while back only loosened a couple tiles off the wall.
This is what is known as “conditioning.”
You would need Taiwanese people to ride the New York subways to fix the problem. This is due to the New York riders, not due to the people running the system.
Other systems, like the DC Metro, which I have used, are weirdly modern-looking to my eyes. All you need is a hole in the ground and a fast train, but it does have its aggravations.
John Rocker got in trouble for saying as much.
“The trains are on time to the minute and ultra clean inside.”
They don’t have NYC democrats.
I rode the Hong Kong MTR for 17 years. It is a good system but I have an issue with anyone saying they don’t like Mass Transit
This is NYC after all. What do you expect of a cesspool?
LOL, anyone ever take the Red Line in L.A. at night? It’s the homeless shelter in motion.
Not clicking on the wsj link. Damned paywall.
They can get my click from some other sucker.
The newest stations in NYC are attractive:
The older ones, not so much:
Just take the title and put in a search engine...you should be able to find it somewhere where you don’t have the paywall.

Good Luck wid dat peeps...
I HATE mass transport.
It's associated with places that have pay parking. M/T doesn't typically allow dogs and then there is always the issue with bringing a significant amount of purchased mass back to the compound. So, it's not really "mass" transport in my experience.
