My father has been a pilot for all of my life of 50 years. He seems to latch on to ideas such as the flat earth theory that betrays everything that he was trained in aerial course plotting. True north? Magnetic North? Distant mountains rising from the horizon during the flight etc. He finally believes that the international space station exists after I insisted that he join me on a clear night to watch it go over. He seems to be obsessed with the notion that doom and destruction are always nearing. He's been like chicken little about gun control for 20+ years. Today more people have guns than ever. My point is that he is far from alone. It seems that 1000's of people are aggravating over 'covert/secret' motives of a nameless 'Them or They' that are trying to totally control 'everyone else'.
Is there a possibility that these crazy flat-earth ideas get started on the internet as an experiment to see how many 1000's of people buy into it which would give them a statistic on what they could actually make these gullible lost people believe?
Sorry if this is not the right place to throw up my concern about the weird stuff that seems to be taking hold in this country. I find it very disturbing..
Have you seen WestWorld season 2?
This time is the Rejection of Reason.
I see it in science. I see it in politics.
Hell, I see it in my personal dealings.
The Lord of Lies is working overtime. This is not a man-made thing, this not a man-centric struggle.
This is a war of Powers and Principalities.
Get right with God.
I am so screwed.
me too.
I think you might want to listen a bit closer about the gun thing and your statement.. “today more people have guns than ever” is a complete fabrication. maybe your dad is just checking to see if YOUR bullshit meter is working
It is disturbing. Its disturbing that people would in the face of facts
and even good ol common sense embrace narratives and viewpoints that are have been or will be disproven, and why? Because the truth is too painful to accept. Because a position they hold dear would be debunked or contradicted and theyd rather stick beans in their ears and babble about how they cant hear you. Theyd rather misquote someone and repeat and dissect a fragment of what a person they do not admire said as what they really meant, and when it suits them completely ignore what people they admire say that is truly in the negative.
Its good to question authority and try to get to the bottom of things,
but when you hold an inflexible position that denies incontrovertible
facts that should be at your own peril and not at others.
For example, on the way to work last winter I heard a fellow commute passenger , a millennial Latina college kid assert that Trump controlled the weather and allowed it to be inclement. What can you say or discuss with someone who espouses that kind of idiocy? How can you talk to 9/11 troofers, climate change believers, socialists, kneeling racialists, who have no facts to support their beliefs? I know I wouldnt get in a plane knowingly with a pilot who has flown at altitudes where the curvature of the earth can be seen but denies it.
I think attempts to equate concern over government attempts to disarm the population with flat earth theories is disturbing.
So it is the aliens....
"Oh, you think some kind of conspiracy was behind the 911 attacks? You must be a flat-earther moron!"
Well man. I live in Alabama. Everyone that I work with wont leave the house without a gun.
