Ouch, Babe. Big Law Associate Sues Ex-Fiancee Over $100K Engagement Ring

When Ryan Strasser, then an associate at Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C., got down on one knee and asked Sarah Jones Dickens to marry him, he knew one thing: She’d like the ring.

It was 4.06 carats, a near-colorless, old European cut brilliant diamond, mounted in platinum with 14 diamond accents. And it fit what he says were her must-have requirements: 3.5 to 5 carats with an inclusion rating of no “worse” than VS2 and a color rating of no “worse” than G, and with no fluorescence.

The price? $100,000.

And then, 11 months later…they broke up.

According to Strasser, now an associate at Troutman Sanders in Richmond, Virginia, Dickens won’t return the ring—which he’s stuck paying off until 2020.

I wouldn’t hire someone stupid enough to buy jewelry retail.

I dated a woman who wore an engagement ring from her ex-fiancée on our first date...like a normal piece of jewelry.

When I asked why she still had it, she replied it was “a normal custom” for the woman to keep the ring.

I never saw her again...and dodged a bullet.

I believe this is settled law. It is a gift and she gets to keep it.

I believe you are right.

I have blue topaz. It’s pretty. Cost about $300 in 1988.

He can sue all he wants but it’s been proven time and again that an engagement ring is a gift from the would be groom to the would be bride. Sorry, he loses.

My wife had a good friend who had similar requirements for her wedding ring and was overall a diva brat. She got everything she wanted and the friend’s fiance was a great guy.

Between his friends telling him the truth about his soon-to-be bride and her family demanding that he become a part of the family business, he saw the light and broke it off before the wedding...she kept the ring, though.

13 years later he’s married with kids and she’s still single. But...she got that ring!

Were you born in December or did you just like something with a little color to it?

A friend of mine married a guy who had given her a ring that he had got back from a previous fiancée-—and it had the old fiancées initials in it.

The marriage lasted 55 years, until his death.

Rings just don’t matter.

her must-have requirements

If he was stupid enough to marry some gold-digging hoor who set "requirements" for her ring, then he is stupid enough to lose the $100,000.

When I got engaged to my beloved (3rd and KEEPER of a love), he was surprised I chose a 1/4 caret diamond. I fluffed it off as he wasn’t thinking clearly. LOL After being married a bit he mentioned an incident he saw when he was a theater manager. A young college-age worker was getting married to a doctor. She was working the candy stand at the time... (No jokes, please) Apparently she made it clear to her intended that no ring would suffice under a full caret and she also wanted a house to be bought prior to the marriage. Yup. She got both the house and the engagement ring as insisted upon. I hope they’re still married. So from that time on, my poor husband was under the impression that every single engagement ring would just naturally be at least a full caret. I don’t even wear mine after 30 years because of medical conditions and need to remind myself where I’ve placed it. LOLOL That guy should have RUN from her.... Oh. Side story, my beloved has a wedding band and never wore it. Found out why once I met a co-worker. A supervisor lost his wedding finger one day at work because his hand got caught on a pole on a work truck and the truck took off before they realized the issue. I’m thinking if I saw that I’d NEVER wear a ring on ANY finger.

haha!!! I have had several rings from my DH, because thats what he thinks he should do.(his mom was a complete jewelry queen)
My favorite, and I am wearing it right now, is pink silicone. It cost $12.00. But you know what? I wear it every single day. No taking it off to do dishes, or mulch, or clean up on aisle dog poop. I have to say all of my good rings spent way more time in a dish, or a box, then ever on my hand.
I always wore them when i was at work, more to say “I’m married and not looking to mingle” But at home? Nope. I love this ring.
