He has trained them to come eat at the sound of the flute. Good way to get rabies.

Cute but pesky and destructive critters. I’m surprised haven’t yet stolen his flute.

Interesting.

I hope he keeps calling and they leave Kansas. They keep pooping in my yard.

They look big, but once you skin them they look like skinny oppossums.

(Davey, I thought this would interest you!)

They imported them to Japan and Germany. Cute, but they have become a real problem in both places.

I have seen raccoons in Japan, where they are called “tenuki.”. Their coloring is quite different:

The problem ones are the ones that were imported.

Thaks for the article link Pete. Interesting reveal on how our racooons populated Japan:

“Unfortunately, humans don’t have a great track record when it comes to choosing pets. Wild animals that look cute and cuddly aren’t likely to be that way in human hands, or in human homes, and there’s the house-training issue. There might be some exceptional success stories, but for most families, the fantasy of having their very own “Rascal” didn’t work out. Apparently this caught many fans of the anime by surprise, even though Rascal’s unsuitableness as a pet was a central theme.

And that’s how raccoons came to be released into the Japanese wild. It was a pretty sweet deal for the raccoons, too, given that in Japan they lack any significant natural predators. (Their main predators in North America are wolves and coyotes, which don’t exist in Japan, as well as wildcats, which inhabit only a couple of small Japanese islands.) Over the ensuing decades, the raccoon population soared, and Rascal established himself in nearly every part of the country.”

I did not now about their raccoon importation.Japan also has herds of wild boars roaming around suburban areas, and hunters for them are much in demand in Japan. They make good eating.

You likely could go on holiday in Jaoan and clean up.The problem would be that the Japanese women would be after you bigly, LOL.

Many years ago, maybe early 80’s I saw a clip on tv. Maybe it was the news, maybe it was that show about funniest home videos. Video was of an old chinese man in china going out to a hilltop in the middle of nowhere and holding his arms out to either side and I think he sang or chanted. Literally hundreds of birds came out of nowhere and landed on his arms. He had no food. They were just stopping to say hi I guess. I looked for it once on the internet but could not find it. It looked like the real deal to me.

That likely was the 16th Gyalwa Karmampa. leader of the Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He was famous for it. He had a very special relationship with birds.
