"Suicide rates up among younger veterans, VA says"

The number of suicides among younger veterans has increased “substantially,” according to a report released Wednesday by the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA)

The latest statistics show that 45 of every 100,000 veterans ages 18-34 committed suicide in 2016 – up from around 40 a year earlier.

“These findings underscore the fact that suicide is a national public health issue that affects communities everywhere,” the VA said in a statement obtained by The Wall Street Journal. “Our goal is to prevent suicide among all veterans — even those who do not and may never seek care within VA’s system.”

The VA found that there were more than 6,000 veteran suicides each year from 2008 to 2016. Veterans accounted for 14 percent of all suicides in the United States in 2016, yet veterans comprise just 8 percent of the population, the report said, according to the newspaper. ************** excerpt

Shes a liar.

Said she had just COME FROM swimming/diving practice, but still had her swim suit UNDER her clothes at the party???

NOBODY dresses after swimming without taking their suit off and drying.

Bad script writer.

I must have missed something. What does lying about swimming have to do with preventing Veteran suicides?

The increase is tied to the Withdrawal of Pain Meds. These idiots in DC seem to forget we are still in 2 Wars, with a Vietnam like scenario being set up in Nigeria. VA cut Pain Meds for Veterans 3 months before they cut it for Civilians.

I keep tabs on it as hubby is a 20 yr Career Ret. SCPO, and as his spouse it effects me in the private sector. We are over the VA earnings cap with 2 SS and his Navy Pension for VA Care. Except dental and hearing as those are Service connected health issues.

Did he get his MD license out of a Cracker Jack Box? VA hospital in his district is in horrible shape.

Roe is NO FRIEND OF VETERANS.

Wow. Lots being done behind the scenes here. I was hoping we could read the full statements.

The candyman docs (few), the LACK of fully trained psychiatrists who are the only ones supposed to be able to prescribe those drugs (a physicians assistant prescribing?????), the lack of data on which programs are actually useful, lack of FOLLOW-UP, rising numbers of women taking their lives, SELF medication with the opioid crises, and most important = lack of trust (if you don’t trust your doc?), coordination between programs and administration, getting the LOCAL community involved, etc. etc, are parts of this very complicated, often swamp creature invaded, system.

Please explain Roe not supporting vets? Is he a swamp creature?

One thing that is totally absurd and STINKS to hell is the FACT that the DOD destroys ALL military sexual trauma records AFTER ONE YEAR! I still can’t believe it. COVER-UP? COVER-UP?
