Ryan Zinke: Naval blockade is an option for dealing with Russia
Washington Examiner ^ | Sep 28, 2018 | John Siciliano

Posted on 09/29/2018 2:16:19 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke says the U.S. Navy can blockade Russia if needed to keep it from controlling energy supplies in the Middle East as it does in Europe.

"The United States has that ability, with our Navy, to make sure the sea lanes are open..." Zinke said on Friday at an industry event in Pittsburgh hosted by the Consumer Energy Alliance.

He was there to explain why hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and the shale energy boom has given the U.S. an edge over its rivals Russia and Iran, by making the U.S. less dependent on foreign sources of energy.

"Russia is a one trick pony," Zinke said, explaining that its economy hinges on its ability to sell energy. "I believe the reason they are in the Middle East is they want to broker energy just like they do in eastern Europe, the southern belly of Europe."

President Trump wants the European Union to buy more U.S. natural gas to diversify the continent's energy supply away from Russia.

Uhm… Except for airpower, missiles and submarines, yes.

why would I care?

Let Europe and the middle east deal with the Russians themselves.

Unless of course we are becoming soldier boys for the Sauds again.

Great idea! Show ‘em who’s boss!

But wait...what do you do if a Russian ship decides to run the blockade? I guess it would be a The Bedford Incident case.

Why do we need to treat Russia like we treated Japan in 1941?

The answer is not nice.

The man is a fool if he thinks this would not result in shooting.

Once the shooting starts, nobody has control of subsequent events.

WTF? Why would we want to got war with a nuclear superpower?

Only NeoCon psychos want to do that.

There is a NeoCon war-seeking cohort here. Condoleeza Protege is one of them.

As per usual, Trumpisourlastchance is okay with NeoCons so long as it’s Putin doing the NeoConning and rebuilding his empire. And he doesn’t like my posts as they tend to be critical of his Kremlin crushes.

I personally don’t think a Navy blockade is necessary, but it is worth noting Russia’s eye on controlling the energy sources of both Europe and the Middle East.

“Russia is a one-trick pony.”

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a couple of days ago, on how Russia has surpassed the US in the sale of wheat for several years and the Russian farmers are thriving. Their expenses are much lower (US farmers’ expenses are 5 times as much) and the Russians can undersell the US and the European Union. The Russians pay their expenses at home in rubles, but get paid in the world market in dollars.

Yep. I’ll bet that Putin is real pleased that he helped Trump get elected. /s

Yes...albeit the Russian people at large are still not experiencing the true fruits of their labor due to oligarchs control of their economy.

And it is a shame that weak American leadership prior to Trump allowed our standing in the world to dwindle with regard to energy, agriculture, etc...

“And he doesn’t like my posts as they tend to be critical of his Kremlin crushes.”

The disgusting, criminal NeoCons always resort to Putin shaming. It’s all they have left. It’s truly rare to see one of them argue a position on the merits and in relation to US interests.

Otherwise they have been thoroughly discredited and are hated by all.

Most interesting is the fact they do not care. Delusional and smug self confidence is their calling card.

They want you to believe they are smarter than you are and that their voice is one that should be heeded, otherwise you’re stupid, or a “Putinista”.

“making sure the sea lanes are open is a far cry from a blockade. Did Zinke actually use the word blockade, or is some journolista putting those words in his mouth?

So if a nation has a good export business going, we put a naval blockade around them. I’ve never heard anything so insane. We are being led by lunatics who will not be satisfied until we are literally in a shooting war with Russia.

What the dude has said is actually that the USA would use its military might to block another country’s peaceful international trade. That’s a bully’s attitude, plain and simple. And it may violate the international law, too.

Poland, the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Romania, beg to differ. They know who the real bully on the block is.

Also it’s not in US interests for Iran to have free rein over the Middle East, which Russia in its typical bullying fashion promotes.

Even Norway has been asking for increased NATO presence and Sweden is contemplating joining due to Russia's bullying behavior.
