If you think your dog is smart you're barking up the wrong tree, according to a new study.

Scientists have found the intelligence of man’s best friend is matched by several species including cats and donkeys.

They identified several cases of 'over interpretation' with owners often thinking their dog was much smarter than it really was.

I’ve seen a dog do that to his own tail, and then catch it, bite it and break it :D

Yeah, but if you asked him, he would have told you “I meant to do that!”. ;)

Who couldn’t see this coming? A month or two ago a study came out with MRI studies of the brains of dogs and cats that showed dogs were at least twice as smart as cats.

Of course some cat lovers were going to band together to make another study showing that wasn’t true.

Next study will show snails, ants, birds, and butterflies are smarter than both dogs and cats.

Moral of the story: The conclusion comes first depending on who is doing the studies. They then fill in the narrative to prove the conclusion. Scientific studies died long ago. It’s all propaganda now. Ever hear of “glowbull” warming?

More likely, we are guilty of over interpretion of scholarship and thinking that the researcher was more intelligent than he really was.

My neighbor has TWO Border Collies. They look almost exactly alike, both females.

One is fairly friendly and approachable. The other is DANGEROUS and will bite you.

The only way to tell them apart is the dangerous one has one ear that slightly flops over at the tip...............

Love cats. But there is no way they are as smart as dogs.

Cats may be smart. But dogs generally use their intelligence to try to be useful and pleasing to their human.

“Go acquaint yourself with a German Shepherd.”

My 8 month old GS is pretty smart. She is always cocking her head when I do something, so I know that she’s thinking about it and trying to figure out how that can benefit her. Last week, she repeatedly slammed into our fence door until it opened up, and she and our other dog escaped (both were found fairly quickly).

But she still eats her own crap AND gleefully slurps up her own puke. That really has to make you question the intelligence of ANY animal.

WRT cats, I have observed them for many decades (never had one except for a few days, both my father and my wife were/are highly allergic). They are solitary hunters, and in my opinion that makes them very intelligent by necessity. That they don’t pay any attention to us, and yet we still feed and otherwise care for them, is indicative of their superior intelligence. Of course, that doesn’t stop 98% of them from being total assholes.

Our manx cat drinks water out of the clean toilet bowl daily AND obeys instructions ( on HIS terms, that is).

We recently stopped at a Petco and got sidetracked by all the cute puppies in the cages. We don’t have the time/lifestyle for a dog right now but after admiring all of them one stood out for her friendly demeanor and I had the employee bring her to one of the cubicles. A female Havanese I believe it was. She was romping around in the little room playful as all get out but when I picked her up onto my lap she was quiet and sweet. I asked how much just out of curiousity and the girl says 2850 and oh but they come with a welcome pack blah blah.

Well I was shocked for a few seconds. I knew she didn’t mean $28.50 lol but I had no clue they were charging almost 3 THOUSAND bucks for dogs these days. I actually find it unethical tbh.

Sayin an animal is as smart as a human is an insult to most dogs, cats and probably rats.
