Safety Earl Thomas Flips Off Seahawks' Sideline While Being Carted Off in Fourth Quarter

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Cardinals after getting injured on Arizona's game-tying score.

Thomas had a cast on his left leg and was taken to locker room to get X-rays on it. After the game, coach Pete Carroll said Thomas had a lower leg fracture, but gave no update on his timetable for a return.

Thomas held out this offseason in hopes of getting an extension on his contract. His is currently in the last year of a four-year deal and is set to become a free agent this offseason.

As Thomas was coming off the field, he gave a middle finger to the Seattle sideline. Thomas has been vocal about the fact that he wanted the contract extension because he was afraid of suffering a major injury while the team was not committed to his future.

I suspect he will be out for the season and will be a Free Agent afterwards. That leg injury will probably lower his bargaining power significantly.

It feels to me as though between the protest issue, Goodell’s incompetent ham-fisted desperate attempts to make an inherently unsafe game safe, and the lack of guaranteed contracts of most players, like the NFL is headed for a major collision between management and labor that won’t be quickly or easily resolved the next time around.

It’s a broken leg. If it were an ACL some teams would be hesitant to offer him big money in free agency. He’d probably have to be on some sort of 1 year “prove it” deal. But a broken leg? Teams won’t be too worried about that. The man is going to do fine in free agency. Seattle can go ahead and remove him from the favorites list in their phones though, he won’t be returning their calls.

Earl is a thug. I am never pleased by any player getting injured, but just gotta say, GOODBYE Earl!

Paul Allen should direct the team GM to meet him at the hospital with a check to pay him off and good riddance. I would make sure I deducted a $1 million for fines for conduct detrimental to the team for skipping practices and for flipping off the team on Sunday.

Can he take a knee with a broken leg?

I found it amusing that the talking heads were tut-tuting their disapproval over his gesture. He has younger team mates and young fans that look up to him, after all!

Yet - they’re okey dokey with players kneeling or raising a fist during the national anthem.

Maybe they will fine him while they could lecture us on the importance of the right to protest.

I was at the game yesterday. I saw him raise his hand as he went by in the cart, but I didn’t see the middle finger until the pictures were posted on line.

Classless.

I have not been watching the NFL even though I love football. I was channel surfing and landed on this right after the injury happened, so stopped to see what was going on. I saw him holding up the bird and I thought he was flipping off the Arizona sideline. I thought, “Well that’s classy...” and then as Cardinals teammates were coming up and shaking his hand, I realized the cart was on the AZ sideline and he was flipping off the other side of the field! So then I figured maybe there was someone off camera I couldnt see, maybe another AZ player, maybe the fans. If this is true, this game is so over.

Another nfl college dropout.

I didn't need to look it up, but I did, and he left college to play in the NFL.

He doesn't know it and is unlikely to ever understand, but his real talent is that of flipping the bird to himself and his life.
