The title of this video is misleading, but it is a very interesting video. We have all heard of the benefits of high intensity interval training but this video takes it a little further.
It takes a woman who is in sort of average condition and has her undertake a high intensity program of 3 workouts a week. In each workout she does 4-30 second sprints with each sprint followed by a rest period. The producers get the 6 minutes a week from the sprint periods (4 at 30 seconds equals 2 minutes of course times 3 workouts a week).
The results are pretty remarkable.
The producers of this video show how intense exercise actually changes the body's mitochondria thereby reducing illness and slowing down aging (dramatically).
I was a fitness trainer for ten years (just gave up my certification last May), and I have heard good things about this. Haven’t read the article you posted yet, but from the little I see, this works. You have to make sure you are in good heart health shape, however. Tabata I think it’s called.
I dont need to get fit this week. Screaming at the TV has given me quite a workout.
Interesting.
Bkmrk.
me neither. I’m going to Chick Fil A for lunch and In N Out for dinner.
BTW, this was published in 2015.
agreed, I like the very short Tabata sequences, which are high intensity for 20 seconds, 10 seconds of recovery. Youtube has various under 5 minute Tabata sequences. ( This does not include warm up and cool down.) Very doable at least 3 times a week, particularly if you’re short on time.
I am 65 years old, and have been doing interval training for about 6 months. I do about five 3-minute intervals, with heart rate between 135 and 150.
I do feel much better, but I’m still too old!
I think his secret is good genes and he screams A LOT.
So you may be on to something.
I’m going to sprint to the liquor store.
Do you use tabata with Kettlebells?
Amen ;D
I did something similar a few months ago. The SHIIT workout. :) Super high intensity integral training. I did see good results and noticed quick improvement in how I felt. The problem was I was doing it on a treadmill and began to have ankle and knee pain. I think because I wasn’t warming up enough, which they strongly warned about.
I am planning to start it back this week but dial back the intensity. I was walking for a minute, sprinting for 30 seconds, walking, sprinting. For about 20 to 25 minutes. And taking longer to warm up.
HIIT me with your best shot?
bflr
I dont know what tabata is. But you can definitely get hella fit with 15 mins - a 5 min warmup w/o kettlebells, and a 10 minute session with. More time is better but lots of days that is ALL I HAVE TO MYSELF.
If you don’t spend 20 minutes warming up before you spend 6 minutes sprinting you will spend 30 days with a pulled hamstring.
