Yes. It was a custom macro assembly language developed at JSC. PITA to be honest.

To quote Lindsey Graham regarding Obama's Nobel Peace Prize :

Got a clearance? The job market is super hot right now, the evil MIC can’t find enough people to hire.

As to the topic, well, speaking as one of those ... yeah, IQ is like having the strongest horse in the barn. It doesn’t mean a thing until you harness it and put it to work.

Your characterization appears flippant but it is completely correct so sad a,serious issue is dealt with in such a juvenile manner I am not sure how "my" characterization is flippant, I did not write the article, just posted it. I am not sure how the post is in a juvenile manner as I am a successful, retired person at age 59. And "a,serious issue", besides the punctuation error seems to imply that there is something that can be done about IQ...or something. The shortcomings I see are corrupt governments, education systems that do not train students for needed job skills and lack of parental involvement. I do not see an easy solution to these problems.

So do the studies incorporated in “The Bell Curve.” No one claims there are not exceptions to the rule or that other factors affect success in life.

Everything else being equal those with higher IQs are more successful. And you should note that Whites do not have the highest IQs (except for Jews who score highest of all) but East Asians have the top scores.

The Nobel Peace prizes for 0bama and Arafat were a joke. The ones in the article were for physics and I thought they were major accomplishments, years ago, and I had no problems with them.

That is sort of the rubric used by the German Chief of Staff Von Clausewitz I think before WW1

According to him Smart & Lazy often made good officers and managers because they knew what needed to be done, did it and would not exceed their orders. They would do what needed to be done with economy of material and effort. They were reliable and competent if not imaginative and most importantly were willing to delegate.

The best Generals were the stupid and lazy because they would fob off the job to the ambitious, and smart subordinates. They would not micromanage a situation and tended to listen to advice when finalizing plans.

The man to be avoided at all cost was the stupid but ambitious man. He was too stupid to know he was wrong but ambitious enough to try anyway.

The smart and ambitious man was useful rising through the ranks but tended to be reckless as they gained rank.

I think that is how it went.

A - perfect - Lady’s comment is obviously better than mine .... “motivated” a better word than lazy.

And your final category .... “not here” covers so many today, missing from past generations

Sharing your words with my wife, also a teacher, the Grammar Queen, who also one ups most of my written word ..

Both James Watson, the co-discoverer of DNA’s structure, and Richard Feynman, who worked on the path integral of quantum mechanics, had scores too low to gain membership in Mensa.

Yet Feynman was a Putnam fellow, a top-five finisher in the 1939 Putnam mathematical competition. The Putnam competition is a far more rigorous test of math intelligence than an IQ test. Feynman's biography is titled "Genius" for good reason.

Here is a link to a site that lists average IQ per country. They have it listed for 2010 and 2003:

170 here and my only claim to “fame” is that I wrote software for the space shuttle. No prizes, no riches and I’m currently unemployed.

Unquantifiable beyond the standard test, numerous non-destructive testing patents and have moved on to neurodegenerative models. Yeah. IQ means nothing.

Narratives. Low IQ from the media occupation.

That makes great sense. Though I’ve known some incredibly bright military guys.

Getting people to follow directions is important .... as long as the thinking behind directions are correct.

Business as well

Memory is only one aspect of intelligence. Problem solving is also important.

In fact, too much trivia is distracting.

Secondly, much of IQ is based on conformist thinking rather than creative and unique thinking.

Agreed. Using Feynman in there trope caused me to spit bile in my mouth. I have reread his lectures multiple times. He was the one with a “beautiful mind.”

I’m beginning to suspect that response time is also a good indicator of intelligence. Speed of thought can reflect superior neuro-pathways.

But you know what’s really funny about IQ tests?

Brain scans make them obscolete.

I agree, how can the ability of thinking of new and revolutionary ideas be measured?

We are all born with varying abilities, talents, intelligence, and determination. Standardized tests are not necessarily that great at measuring these attributes but obviously have predictive value. There is a correlation between ACT/SAT scores and success in college. It is not that great but it has been shown repeatedly that the tests do a better job of predicting success than human interviewers. This is something that was not mentioned in the article.

The tests do the best job of predicting how well you will score on similar tests. When I was trying to get on a larger municipal fire department in the 1980s there were 5,000 applicants for 30 jobs over the next 3 years. 10 of those jobs were reserved for women and minorities(affirmative action). Veterans got extra points for their service. Your written test score plus your veteran’s service points determined your position on the list. The physical agility test was pass/fail.

The written test they had been using previously was thrown out because women and minorities did poorly on it and sued the city. They replaced it with a standardized test that was very similar to an IQ test. They thought that in this way they wouldn’t have to go so far down the list to get people in their target affirmative action groups.

Fortunately, I have always been extremely good at standardized tests. There were 16 of us hired in the first class. There were a couple of us that got near perfect scores and a few veterans who scored well enough to make it into the top ten with their extra points. So I got a job. There were 6 affirmative action hires, 4 women, a black guy and an Asian guy. They still had to go down to something over 650 on the list to hire a black woman which they really wanted. The highest affirmative action hire was around 100 on the list. 6 people mostly the affirmative action hires didn’t make it through our “probationary” year. We lost half of them in the first two months while we were being trained. Despite pulling an unbelievable amount of crap and doing poorly all year the black woman didn’t get fired.

The standardized test that was suppose to keep the city from getting sued “discriminated” against women and minorities exactly the same as the tests that the city had been using previously.
