First Man: must see movie, plenty of US flags too...

Great movie, deeply patriotic. I don't get all the BS on the flag. it is all over the movie, and on the Moon.

Multiple times goosebumps. The Saturn vehicle launch is worth the price of admission alone. Ryan G is awesome. The only false note is Claire foy's part as the wife. I wish she had been more supportive and less of a worrier. But, that aside, a must see Freeper Movie Great window into USA greatness when we have a clear objective.

Just returned from seeing it. It was awesome. The flag controversy was just plain nonsense. No you didnt actually see the flag planting..but you saw the flag on the moon. It was a grest historical drama keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

The Teams at IBM Federal Systems Division (Now Lockheed Martin) in Owego NY did the computer work on systems with 1/10th the computing power of this IPhone 7. Truly remarkable.

I thought it was marginal. Enough with the bratty kids and constant astronauts having beers in each of their backyards. Lost opportunity IMHO. BUT, I am an admitted film snob.

This movie is nothing more than the continuation of NASA propaganda which started in the 1950s.

Men have never landed on the moon.

Men have never “orbited” the earth. There is nothing to orbit. Water on the surface of the earth does not curve. The earth is NOT a globe. It is flat. It is part of a larger plane. It is covered with a firmament (a dome.) See Revelation 1:14.

Made-made technology cannot get through the firmament. It is impossible for man-made technology to go to the moon.

And yet Ryan Gosling and the producers and director went out of their way to say they did NOT want this to be a patriotic movie - nor an event that was specific to the efforts of the USA.

Or as one of the worst presidents of the USA would say “Y’all didn’t do that”

When asked about the omission, Gosling explained that the producers wanted to focus on human achievement, as opposed to just American achievement.

That's a direct quote...problem is it was not an every human event ...it was an American human event.

As for Gosling...he's a Canadian...I don't think that was a by chance. He can believe what he wants but the rest of the world had practically nothing to do with it!!

I think it just goes to show how sloppy software engineering has gotten.

"...“I wanted the primary focus in that scene to be on Neil’s solitary moments on the moon. …This film is about one of the most extraordinary accomplishments not only in American history, but in human history,” Chazelle said..."

Not "BS". Are you arguing that they didn't deliberately omit it, beebuster2000, because they did. They absolutely did.

You may be fully into the concept that The Soviet Union, Red China, Nazi Germany, Uganda, and Bangaldesh had as much to do with landing a man on the moon for the first time (Which is exactly what the POS director wants to convey) but I, and many others believe this was an effort that was American.

Americans paid billions of our hard earned dollars to make it happen. We had men die in the process because it was dangerous, and some (including Armstrong) who nearly died. It happened on American soil. Every single one of those men were American.

It is your view to accept the globalist viewpoint and philosophy of the director.

I DID NOT CRITICIZE YOU FOR ACCEPTING THAT. I IDID NOT SAY "STOP POSTING THAT CRAP. I DID NOT SAY IT WAS BS.

I would appreciate the same consideration I gave YOU as a fellow member of Free Republic.

And for what it is worth, I did not criticize the movie as not “deeply patriotic” or “full of pride”.

If you are going to get angry angry about things people say, I suggest you be more focused in your criticism.

Just to reiterate: I won’t see the movie because they made a conscious decision not to show the American flag when it was used at one of the most historic moments in the history of man.

I didn’t criticize YOU or anyone else who saw it. As far as I am concerned, that is your business, your money.

Okay?

Moved to a building down in South Houston area (Clear Lake) for the Shuttle program on Bay Area BLVD. Beautiful building. Had a helo pad on top and yes... gun turrets. I kid you not. I was there right after the transition from IBM to Lockheed-Martin. What an awesome time.

Nasa later pitched a fit about the cost of that glorious building and moved over to buildings in Nassau Bay. To be fair the IBM building was designed during the 80s DOD mandate for buildings that could be used in case of emergencies. So in effect, part of NASA's budget was being used to support to support "under the radar" stuff. Always keep that in mind when complaining about NASA's budget.

Here is a cool link about the software group for the Shuttle program. I'm waxing nostalgic today. They write the right stuff

They clearly show the flag on the surface of the moon. They don’t show him planting it, but they don’t show a lot of details that they could have shown throughout his career, so I didn’t see it as a slight, since the American flag is clearly shown planted on the moon while he and Aldrin are bounding around.

Thank you, Kartographer. Coming from you, that is a compliment indeed.

I don’t pass judgement on beebuster2000 for his support of the movie. I want my respect where we have a disagreement to be reciprocated is all.

It’s sarcasm. He didn’t actually say those words.

Good.

In my defense I’ll say it’s hard to tell sarcasm/allegories from the actual spoken words these days.
