My wife berated me for not killing water moccasins that I observed and photographed on one of those rails to trails paths where I do some distance skating (Fall Line Trace in Columbus, GA). It was not the sort of place to pull my airweight Smith and start blazing away.

I’m sorry for all the snake lovers out there, but if I have a bag of clubs, the next foursome will not have a 20’ give me.
I think you are supposed to let those play through.
That’s why when playing golf, you should try to keep it on the fairways.

Years ago I was golfing on a mountain course in Virginia and noticed a big rattlesnake just off the fairway. I told the group behind us about it so they could avoid it. On the green I look back and see the group killing it with clubs and large rocks. While I thought that was unnecessary at the time, they did give it to the course restaurant which served it that night.

The snake looks pretty full. Any golfers missing?
It is hard to be sure but that one does not look all that large to me.

My son, our dog and I were hiking at Windy Hill on the SF Peninsula a couple days ago. Had one crossing the trail in front of us...we pulled up maybe 15 feet from it. I guess we were scanning too much toward our feet. Need to work in my situational awareness and look farther down the trail. Good thing our pup didn’t lunge toward it and start barking his head off.
Looked like a small one, only about four feet long.
