It’s Friday afternoon and I’m tired so let’s end on a lighter note. Long-running character Apu is going to be written out of the Simpsons forever. There has been controversy about the character, who speaks in a stereotypical Indian accent, for several years. Earlier this year producer Adi Shankar launched a spec script competition looking to somehow subvert or possibly put an end to the character. Shankar doesn’t work on the Simpsons but was hoping that if the idea caught on and the spec script was good enough, maybe the show would embrace the idea and produce it. But today Shankar told Indie Wire that he has heard the Simpsons plans to simply drop the character without much fanfare:

They should sell the store to a bunch of Millenial Gays and let the Simpson’s satirize that.

I work with dozens of Indians. That's exactly what they sound like. It's a stereotype FOR A REASON!!!
And by the way, nobody has a problem with Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel speaking in a "stereotypical" Southern hick accent. And I remember an episode in which Germans took over the nuclear plant; their speech was rife with cliches like "Ach du lieber" and "Gott in Himmel."
And then there was the French waiter, the Japanese soap maker, Fat Tony the Italian mafioso ... All stereotypical characters that no one seemed to mind.
They could make all the characters NPCs, but that would insult the SJWs.
Gutless.
The Simpsons itself is a stereotype of every possible character. Apu got a pretty tame treatment compared to Homer, Cletus, the one-armed gun dealer, et al.
Deport him for visa fraud. Problem solved.

Indians NEVER speak with Indian accents! Actually, isn’t it more racist to think that speaking with an accent is bad or shameful? What does that imply about real people who speak with an accent?
The Simpsons hasn’t been funny in years.
And they speak better English than I speak Hindi, that’s for sure.
Nothing wrong with accents, as long as I can understand what they’re saying.
They can have Joe Biden shot him through his front door with a shotgun.
