"Would “DAZED & CONFUSED” qualify as a power ballad?"

No, it is straight up slow blues, although a great turn of those blues, especially with Bonham's drums.

Surprised it took this many replies to get to Journey. C’mon: “Don’t Stop Believin” (a little fast for a power ballad, but it qualifies). “Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin” is up there with the best power ballads of all time.

Some good examples, but would differ with others. Some are melodic ballads and others are RnR. A Power Ballad is a certain tempo with power guitar chords and and heavy drums/bass backing.

The best example in this thread is the Scorpions, "Still Loving You". Or if you prefer by Foreigner, "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Hysteria by Def Leppard is also a good example.

Dude, get out of the 60's. That is a folk song.

"Styx - Blue Collar Man".

Styx had great songs, but Blue Collar Man was not a power ballad. It was almost pop.

The close Styx came to a power ballad was, "Suite Madamn Blue". One of my all time favorite songs ever. It's the first on one my car flash drives. If you're a patriot, you owe yourself to listen to that epic song. Have a tissue handy for the tears. It was as relevant then as it is today.

Bad finger was a great band

So many latter power ballads were so syrupy.....rock bands appealing to junior high girls

REO was worst offender.....I’m gonnna keep on loving you between hurls....

I could stomach Motley Crüe ballads and Metallica sellout ballads and even a couple of Brett Michaels ballads just cause CC played the choice lead chops

In the air tonight....is that a power ballad?

10cc I’m not in love

The true first power ballad is Nights in White Satan....a great song

Badge from Cream borders on power ballad

Aerosmith has several but Tyler is so despicable I refuse to acknowledge them besides their best song is straight yardbirds rip

Queensryche Silent Lucidity.....good one

Oasis Champagne Supernova....another

Cheap Trick The Flame....well it is Cheap Trick

Night Ranger.....Sister Christian....wonderland nod

Blind Faith.....Presence of the Lord....this is a gospel number slash power ballad although it finishes as a non ballad

Guns and Roses .....November Rain...I always see Stephanie Seymour’s legs in her bridal gown

Prince Purple Rain ...a contender for first place

Meat Loaf.....tie Two out of Three ain’t bad versus I would do anything for Love

Cinderella Nobody’s Fool

Pantera.....yes they had a ballad who’s name escapes me

Lynyrd Skynyrd....Tuesday’s Gone....another contender for first place

Metallica The Unforgiven or Turn the Page

Quick rant off the top of my heads of power ballads that maybe don’t suck

Some of these have been taken but I’ll include them anyway:

Still Loving You-Scorpions
November Rain-Guns ‘N Roses
Too Late For Love-Def Leppard
Bringing on the Heartbreak-Def Leppard
When a Blind Man Cries-Deep Purple
Who Wants to Live Forever-Queen
The Show Must Go On-Queen
Close My Eyes Forever- Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne
Mother Love-Queen
More Than a Feeling-Boston

I don’t know if this song qualifies as a power ballad but I love it:
Changes-Black Sabbath

You have a great list there, especially "Tuesdays' Gone". And I see someone finally included "Purple Rain". One of the quintessential power ballads of all time.

"Badge from Cream borders on power ballad." Yes,they were the first hard rock band and you are one of the few that get power ballad/rock. Did you know Ginger Baker (drummer) had 2 base drums to get that sound.

"The true first power ballad is Nights in White Satan....a great song"

I disagree. That was a beautifully written slow ballad with a big orchestral arrangement, but not a power ballad.

I liked REO for the melodic rock. They weren't power ballads so much, but nice flowing RnR.

"In the Air Tonight" was its own original sound, with Phil's original heavy drums entering later in the song. I'll give you that one as a power ballad.

"Sister Christian" made me want to puke every time played. Definitely not a power ballad.

Many of your others I haven't heard, so they may or may not apply in this category. Also, "Dream On" by Aerosmith was an early power ballad. Like them or not, that song qualifies.
