So they get rid of the guy for a simple slump early in the season?
It took new Islanders owners, and still a few years to get rid of some coaches and Snow. Now they’re apparently doing well. I haven’t watched them regularly since they consistently performed poorly.
Well, the Hawks did sign Hossa to a huge contract to put them over the top earlier in the decade, and one could argue it worked. 3 Cups in 5 years will give their fans some pretty good memories.
Of course, back then, Toews and Kane were great youngsters and Seabrook and Keith were at their NHL peak (which always seems to be around 27 years old). Still good players, but besides Saad, it seems with all those major contracts, they are only able to fill in journeymen around these core guys.
Three Cups in 6 years. There are probably some teams that go 6 years without getting into the playoffs.
Well, not so any more. He gone, finally! Same for LeBron's waterboy (er, coach) with the Cavaliers. Two in the same weekend. Good thing for Francona that the Indians won their division or it could have been a Cleveland Trifecta!
At least he finally got fired. But Jason Garrett is still coaching.
They may follow the Red Wings’ recent path (3-4 losing years, but lots of upside with draft picks.)
It probably depends on how long it takes them to rebuild. The NY Rangers pulled out all the stops to win a Stanley Cup in 1994, and it took them almost 15 years to really recover from that. There were 25 players from that team whose names were etched on the Stanley Cup, and the Rangers only drafted five of them. They gave up some very talented players (Mike Gartner, Doug Weight, Tony Amonte, James Patrick, John Vanbiesbrouck, Bernie Nicholls, etc.) to assemble that team, and the loss of younger players like Weight and Amonte really left them old and slow almost immediately after they won.
As one who suffered thru the Bill Wirtz/Bob Pulford lean years, I wish Coach Queenville best of luck and thank you for the great ride. Things are in cycles.
It was inevitable since the defense played like some of the beer league teams I have been part of. Thirty SOG in a period? Performances like that make this result inevitable. In all of the years of playing officiating and coaching, only saw that( on receiving end) once or twice.
I wish Luc could coach the kings.
I don’t have a good feel for the non-salary cap era, but it was indeed very different.
The Leafs seem to have executed a turn-around in 3 years. I wouldn’t have signed Tavares for the money they did. They need to pay Matthews, and when they do, they won’t have anything left for Marner, Kapanen or Nylander.
Four years ago they won the Stanley Cup.
Three years ago they were out in the first found.
Two years ago they were out in the first round.
One year ago they failed to make the playoffs.
The new coach is the first head coach hired by Stan Bowman.
