The Blackhawks fired coach Joel Quenneville on Tuesday and named Jeremy Colliton to replace him, making him the 38th coach in franchise history.
The Hawks also fired assistant coaches Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson and named Barry Smith an assistant on Collitons staff. The rest of the coaching staff will remain with the team.
The Hawks failed to make the playoffs last season for the first time during Quennevilles tenure. They are 6-6-3 this season and have lost five straight.
The Hawks havent won a playoff series since winning the Stanley Cup in 2015, their third championship in six years.
As Chicago Blackhawks fans have seen over the last decade, this organization no longer shies away from making tough decisions or ones based on emotion, owner Rocky Wirtz said in a statement. Those days are long behind us. Of course, Joels was difficult, as it should have been. During his tenure as head coach to the Chicago Blackhawks, Joel brought the city of Chicago and our fans three Stanley Cups and an incredible era of hockey.

What about Bowles?
Or “How many losses does it take to get a Jets coach fired?”
Been wasting my time for 38 years, since I was 12.
I was 18 months old when they won the Superbowl.
Needless to say, I don’t remember the celebration.
Okay, they're not setting the league on fire, but that's not a bad record for only the first quarter of the season. He becomes the second NHL coach fired, I believe (after the LA Kings fired theirs).
I am sure Quenneville will pop up pretty quickly with another team. Great coach.
Stupid move.
The Blackhawks core is getting old and they don’t have good goaltending. Its hardly Quenneville’s fault. They are not even 1/4 through the season yet.
Get ready Hawks fans. A major tear-down and rebuilding is in the works. These are very long, painful processes.
Cowboys' fans are learning the same thing.
And yet, Jason Garrett still has a job. Life's not fair.
Jackson in Cleveland lost thirty-one out of thirty-two yet somehow kept his job... Midseason changes in hockey, baseball, and basketball can successfully turn seasons. In football, not so much and are usually seen as a sign of an unstable dysfunctional organization. And the Jets... they have a twenty-two year old rookie QB who is learning the NFL position the hard way (via OJT), and he doesn't have much help on offense. The D is actually pretty good.
I know you gotta get those first year blues out of the way.
But with McCowen starting, we might have had a chance at the playoffs.
And Darnold could have gotten experience on the sidelines for a year.
IF after 10 games, they were out of the running, THEN put Darnold in.
I dont know. That’s just me.
Yeah, the Cowboys are just not very good. It may be a stretch to say they're even mediocre. Prescott has struggled through last season and to date in this season..They have no deep threat and the defense is ... suspect. Back in the day you could reel off five or six Cowboys who were All-Pro superstars. Today's team... is there any player that other franchises drool after? Dez White still sits on his couch. Barring a miracle turnaround Garrett is gone at the end of the season.
Well at least the Cowboys will have a nice First Round draft pick next year.....oh, wait.....
Wow... Every other coach in the NHL is quaking right now. He’ll probably be the next Panther coach.
Enough bad things can’t happen to Samuelsson. Ruined Cam Neely with a cheap hit and cut short his career
LOL!
We were wondering last weekend if the Ducks will pull the plug on Carlyle after the Kings fired their coach. The Ducks have the same record after losing five strait and their shots/shots allowed is ridiculous.
3 Stanley Cups is as many as every other Chicago coach won combined!
Chicago even had a protect a player (Marian Hossa) who was unofficially retired at the time -- and has since officially retired.
These contracts really hamper their ability to rebuild. I think they're going to be a mediocre team for several years.
(let me know if you want on or off the ping list)
..the Kings did the same thing. I’m hearing there may be some trades following soon...
